First time on meds, and feel worse

MelbMum

Hey,

Got diagnosed last October and been on meds. But last few months my sleeping patterns have been out of wack, i can't sleep at night so sleep during the day. And lately it's been a struggle just to have a shower. Feel like I should check in with doctor about whether the meds are making me worse.

Hi MelbMum

Welcome to bb.

Sorry to hear that you're having such a tough time. It is very difficult to function when dealing with both depression and lack of sleep/irregular sleep pattern.

I agree it's a good idea to check back in with your doctor. It's really important to sort out your sleep routine and you may need some help with that. Looking to review your medication makes sense too.

How are you eating?

Kind thoughts to you

Hi MelbMum,

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear that you are struggling to get some sleep. This makes everything seem so much harder. I agree with SummerRose in that going and getting an assessment with your Doctor is a really good idea. Everyone responds differently to medication and sometimes people need to have a dose adjustment or even require trying a new medication. Many people find a combination of treatments more effective than just one for example, sometimes people use medication and have some counselling or they add in exercise as a treatment.

These are all best discussed with a health professional like your Doctor. Going to the appointment with a list of things that have been happening for you can be helpful. It is also helpful to start a sleep and mood journal which could be really simply writing down when you went to bed and when you got up each day for a few weeks and also scoring you mood each day on a scale of 1 - 10 and writing down any activity you were able to achieve.

Having this information can help your Doctor understand the pattern you are in a bit better when you are at your appointment. If you are having difficulty getting up to have a shower, I understand that it would be tough to get to your Doctors and wonder if you have anyone who could accompany you?

Please let us know you get on with booking an appointment and be assured that you are not alone in your struggles towards finding recovery and healing. It is a journey and I commend you for taking this step and posting on the forum.

Wishing you the best possible outcome,

Nurse Jenn
