Concern over referred psychologist.

I got a referral from a doctor today (not my usual GP, as they are unavailable for a few weeks), and apart from the doctor I met with seeming to be a bit lost with my request, I tried to look up the psychologist I was referred to and couldn't find any registration under the name.
Also when I called the number, it went straight to voicemail and there was no mention of their profession in their outgoing message.
I am nervous about not being able to find their name registered, is this normal?

Thank you for the link, I will have to have a look at that.
I have been able to budget for the gap payments with the psychologist, but after that I'm not sure if I will be able to continue (having currently ceased work).
I also wasn't expecting to have to see a psychiatrist as well, which is an unexpected expense that I may have to somehow borrow money for.
Wow, $220, I'm glad I don't have to pay that. Even after the rebates finish, I'll be looking at $135 for the psychologist.
I don't know why more of this can't be covered with Medicare. Isn't mental health meant to be just as important as physical health? I mean 10 rebated sessions a year, even if you stretch that out to 1 per month, if you're struggling mentally as well as financially, I can see how it can be too much for some. (Let alone the wait times. I don't know if I was unusually lucky, but I managed to secure a spot to see someone within a week. When I told the gp this, she was shocked that it was anything less than 2 months wait).

Thanks for reply. Glad to hear it is worthwhile. You seem to have a positive mindset, which is half the battle. Keep on keepin on, I reckon! It's gotta help.
Good luck, Lee!

Thanks Romantic. Really helpful advice.
I'm sure it will help a lot of people.
It is reassuring to get such positive feedback.
Great tips on the email and online stuff.
Thanks again, Lee.
