Coming off medication

Today is day two of coming off one type of medication I have been on for 5 months. Feeling anxious and have an upset stomach. Trying to breathe and assure myself it is just the medication but I am kind of scared I will go back to being the anxious and depressed mess I was before hand.
is anyone else going through withdrawal if so do you have any tips for me on how to stay calm?

I've been managing my depressive/bipolar for yrs on & off meds. Most people believe mental health can't be managed without meds, I'm not convinced either way yet, still experimenting with whether I think off meds is ok.
Keep track of how bad you feel and make sure you communicate with any medical staff helping you, gp etc.
The first few weeks is obviously the hardest as the body needs to adjust to suddenly doing without the extra chemicals/hormones etc in meds. It may sound too simple & at first really hard to do but main ways to help us to breathe through every min if you're experiencing anything like panic attack. Try everything you can think of that you enjoy to try to distract yourself from thinking about negative thoughts/panic/withdrawal.
Music, positive movies/shows, if you're up to it go out to shops & other places where a lot of people go. Even if you're not up to communicating, sometimes just watching other people discreetly can be interesting & distracting.
Once you're able to find 1 thing to distract you if only a short time you'll start feeling better. Sometimes with anxiety distractions only helps a tiny bit at s time until you start really getting distracted but it's better then sitting in pain/fear/discomfort.
To make it easier to think of tricks to try, think of it a bit like addiction. How would you suggest an addict to stop what they do? In a way it is sort of similar.

I do hope you are not going off meds cold turkey. Even being on meds for a short time is not a good reason to suddenly stop taking meds. Please talk to your doctor about gradually reducing the amount you take. Cutting pills in half or quarters is by far a better option. And take time to get off the wretched things. I am speaking from experience when I got so upset about taking ADs I decided to stop. My psych was annoyed with me because of this and said I could just stop.
After a few days I had to go back and get a new prescription for a smaller amount because it made me so unwell. I even needed to get someone to drive to the psych as I was so dizzy. In retrospect I believe he was negligent to say it was OK to just stop. Being annoyed with me for not wanting to take ADs was not the right action for a doctor. No matter what he felt he should have advised me better. But that's my story.
Please reduce the amount you take of your meds and don't try the cold turkey route. It's dreadful.

Just getting back to leg you know I was not deliberately making it sound like I was suggesting I think you should be off meds. It was meant as general info only...
If you're advised to take meds then you should take them! Only some people do choose to try the alternative route & as adults we all make decisions for ourselves according to what we are able to cope with.
Also I agree that going cold turkey is s no-no, I know that from experience! Sadly when I married my hubby he convinced me to go off meds but I don't think we did it slowly enough. I secretly slowed them down much slower then he thought but done without dr advice n I think I didn't go slow enough, so virtually cold turkey I put half tablets for approx 2-3 weeks only b4 stopping. I believe it made my symptoms worse in that it added affected memory, I feel it made me much more forgetful n other related symptoms popped up. I don't advise anyone to do anything similar, even if anyone ever decides to go off meds for any reason has to be done in advise from dr how to reduce first etc.
I was only meaning to relate to any amount if time off meds while about to take new ones etc...

Thank you both. I have gone cold turkey on a different type before on GP advice and it was like gong through hell for me. This one I am tapering off but still staying on the other type at this stage. Dr advised tapering off an will talk to my psychologist about this next visit which is next weekend. I can't bear to eat on the mornings as I usually end up on the toilet straight after and I think it may be side effects from the reduced prescription but not sure.
i will def try distraction over the next few weeks before seeing my GP again.
