Acupuncture anyone?

Just wondering if anyone has tried acupuncture for anxiety, what feels like, cost?

I have a book at home which says if you hold the lower joints baby finger and ring finger similtaneously with other thumb, anxiety decreases, thumb inside palm side of hand. I have tried this a few times and think it works. Chinese pressure point. So has anyone had success?

Hi Traveller, just following as I am interested too. Cheers

....I too, would like to know if acupuncture is used for anxiety - and could it be effective?

also.......has anyone tried hypnosis? - is it relatively easy to find a genuine hypnotist...how do you know?...

Hello, I have tried both. Acupuncture was brilliant but I couldn't afford to keep going. This was through a Chinese doctor. I found immense relief within 10 minutes of the insertion of the needles. The effect lasted for a few days. I was going twice a week for 3 weeks, then once a week. This was last year. Cost $70 per session. I now have a gp who can do acupuncture but it is different. I have an electrical stimulant applied to pressure points on my ears. Then she attaches a tiny patch with a raised metal piece which I press upon when feeling onset of anxiety. Again it works for a few days then stops working. Don't think I'm going to continue with it.

Last year tried hypnotherapy a couple of times. It was to help alleviate past issues. It too helped but again had to stop because of money. Cost $150 per session. Felt immense relief after both sessions. I have just started again but under my gp under a mental health plan. I have only had one session to date and need to do it a few times to have an affect. Cost $70 so won't be able to do more than 3 sessions.

Hope this helps

Thanks for sharing. Pity it costs so much and only lasts a few days. Interesting though that it does work...

Hi everyone, you can look up both hypnosis and acupuncture in the beyondblue Guide To What Works For Anxiety Disorders.  There is very limited evidence available for the effectiveness of both these treatments for anxiety, but some studies have been done.

Hi Chris is there any info in relation to acupuncture for chronic pain?

Thanks, Carol
