Grateful to be able to share my story

Hi there

I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my story. I am a nurse of 22 years, a sibling survivor of suicide and our beautiful daughter was badly bullied in grade six , has social anxiety, depression and BPD. She has self harmed, multiple suicide attempts one resulting in her becoming unconscious, being intubated and choppered out. My husband and son struggle every day with fear of losing her. It’s exhausting living in a state of hyper vigilance and now that she has turned 18 she is no longer able to continue with CAMHS and of course can decline any services which is scary. She is a beautiful girl, I just wish I could change things for her.

I would love to support other parents going through this. I’m a huge advocate against bullying and for mental health- remove the stigma. I’d love to share my story in schools and to anyway can benefit from my message.

Thank you

Hello Farry, and a warm welcome to the forums, and to post a comment might not be easy, but it is good to talk to people who may have experienced similar circumstances, even though it's so difficult for you.

I'm really sorry for what has been happening to your daughter and this extends to you and your family, and there seems to be no explanation why, and that's what worries you.

Sometimes there appears to be a reason, but we can never be sure why as there could be many hidden factors.

My heart goes out to all of you and just want to let you know your thread has been received, and I hope other people will reply back to you, as I start very early in the morning 12.30 am.

I hope you can please get back to us that would be great.

I have bookmarked this thread and please take care.

Geoff.

Thanks Geoff

We have been living with this for a few years and so it’s not new to us. It breaks my heart that I can’t do more to help my daughter with her depression but I hope I can let others know they’re not alone because as a carer of someone with a mental illness we have had very little support so I’d love to be able to let others know that I do understand all the feelings of hopelessness. Sometimes you just need someone to listen.

Hello Farry, it's great to hear back from you and everything you have told us, we do understand, especially if we have had to experience this ourselves, either being the person who has needed support and any help or those who have tried there hasn't their utmost best to help another person we love.

All we need, as you say, is for someone to listen to what we want to say, there can't be any judgement because if this does happen, then we have lost them in any type of communication, we need to stop, sit down and hear anything they say, now or in the future.

I option say to many people that 'my heart goes out to you' and every time it's genuine, that's exactly what I mean.

Take care.

Geoff.
