Walking Shoes - Walking and Other Exercise

Hey to anyone reading this.

Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.

OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.

So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......

I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Yes the birds are singing... Love that in the very early mornings.

Are the Bush fires all in SA Mrs D?

Good you are being consistant with the walking. No matter what the distance hey. The habit of it is good to have. I haven't been out as yet. I am hoping I will get some energy from somewhere.

And yes I did notice all the Christmas decorations. Don't believe there were as much as last year though. We stood near a railing and peered down at santa on the floor below. Even his area was quite. One thing really stood out... Because it was unusual. It was a Christmas type tower thing. Very colourful with these white netting baskets. The netting baskets reminded me of a butterfly net. Anyways they were all around this tower. Connected to it. The baskets were moving gently up and down, side to side, while going around. We thought it would be fun to throw balls into each one from where we were. The level above. Like basketball.

Hope you are ok Mrs D. And even if you aren't... I think it is ok not to be.

Hi Shelll and All reading,

I have not found the energy for a walk this morning. Off to Church then work soon.

The display at the shopping centre sounds interesting. As we live in a regional area we don't have shopping centres. Have not been to one in the city for ages.

I'm not sure if there were fires in other states due to the thunderstorm or not. We had 3 grass fires about 15 to 20 kilometres from us, thankfully they were controlled quickly.

You may know of Kangaroo Island off the S.A. Coast. It was ravaged by bushfires last summer with about 2/3 of the island affected. They had over 20 lightening strike fires this week. Thankfully they have all been controlled as well.

It is a bit cooler today. I might go for a walk after work. It will help to release some of the stress and tension.

Hope you find the enthusiasm and strength for a walk.

Cheers from Dools

Last night I went walking with my son on the breakwall.

It has been raining were we live but when we arrived there there was no rain. We were met with such breezy ocean air. Of course this was around 9:30pm. The breeze felt so good on me as it it been humid at our place. I breathed in deep the air a few times.

I did not see any moon or hardly any stars as I looked up.

We walked right to the end and back.

No I had never heard of Kangaroo Island. Had to look it up. It is so beautiful looking and natural looking. I would probably like such a place.

We saw quite a bit of lightning far out into the ocean a few nights back.

And yeah energy just goes hey. Did you find some and were able to walk

Last night I went on the coastal walk. Basically it is a bit further on south of the breakwall. It's quite lit up with tall lights every now and then.

Once we got out of the car...Ah yeah we were hit with humidity. Such a contrast from the cool air conditioned car. Never mind... We walked on anyway hoping that it may be cooler further on.

To the right of us was the beach. But first we looked up and noticed the low full moon. Just rising over the hill. It appeared so very big at that moment. Beautiful. We stared up at it for a bit, then started walking.

The beach was dark. But along the horizon were the tiny lights beaming out from the cargo ships. At times I could here the waves coming in on the sand. We walked on the flat for a while, then the path goes up a hill some. To the left of us are some houses. Such beautiful views the people would get from these homes. And some were lit up with Christmas lights.

It gets a bit bushy now on the path. With dense vegetation on the right side. You cannot see the beach or even the ocean now. The path levels out some. We walk for a while. Then down a hill we go, feeling a bit of a breeze, but not much. At the bottom of this hill are a collection of seats. We sat there one year on my birthday eating pizza whilst looking out to the ocean. There is a gourmet pizza place about a 10 min drive from there. It sells dairy free pizza. Yum. It brings back memories that particular spot.

Anyway we walk on for a while. Its all pretty flat now... the path. And I could see the ocean once again. We spotted an egret bird or a heron ( not sure which one) it was wandering around near one of the beach side cafes. Such graceful birds with long skinny legs. Cute in a way. After walking more we come to the end, right along side the ocean baths. Probably would have been so nice and refreshing to go on in for a swim. There were people in there. And it was around 10pm at night.

We turned around and headed back though. We came across that same tall legged bird still wandering around the outside of the cafe. This time my son saw him reach down low and catch some kind of large beetle that was walking across the concrete ground. I never saw it. Think I was looking at the ocean at the time.

As we walk my son chats a lot. Its good for him I think. Finally we reach that hilly bit that we previously walked down and now need to walk up. Ah yeah I was feeling tired and was puffing a bit walking on up that. But glad I conquered it. Kept walking.

Went for a walk with my sister this afternoon. Out on Breakwall Path. The sun was shining and it felt good and nourishing on my skin. It was a little humid, but I was ok with that.

We walked to the end and sat on comfy rock. Here we chatted for a long time.

Wishing you and Everyone reading here a Merry Christmas.

I haven't been walking much as my knee is sore again and I have to work today so need to give it a rest!

So good to walk on the breakwall path again today. I liked feeling the sunshine on me and also the ocean breeze.

Passed a man pushing a pram and a girl walking beside him whilst walking on out. I thought thats great for a family to do. On the way back I was shocked to see the girl holding a small dog in her arms still walking with the man. I looked in the pram to see their baby, but there wasn't one. Think it was a dog pram. Cute
