*Trigger warning* Eating for Health and Wellness

I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.

Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )

I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.

So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Here you go Golden Sunshine, here is a chocolate milkshake for you. I have these old fashioned stainless steel milkshake cups at my place. So that is what yours is served in. If you ever do make it, put plenty of vanilla in it, as it makes the whole thing taste like it has vanilla icecream (which it doesn't)

Did you say you were low in iron? Do you take black strap molasses, my Uncle use to as he was low in iron.

I know you said baby steps to get yourself out into the world. But do you have a balcony or anywhere where you can get your body into the sunshine and fresh air. I reakon you should if you are able. It is just a itty bitty step.

Thanks for trying to help me feel better about eating the chicken roll and the chips. True chips are potato, but they have an enormous amount of unhealthy fat.

That is great you eat some nuts and seeds there Golden, walnuts are supposed to be good for our brains.

And baked apples... Yummo

Welcome back to this thread Birdy.

Are you feeling less anxious and has your head cleared up some? Did cooking and creating in your kitchen help you.

Your salad sounds super healthy. I have some hemp seeds in my freezer. But have only used them once in a smoothie. I should make use of them, as I know they are a good source of nutrients like the omegas . Have you made hemp milk before . Have you tried that Birdy?

Why do I eat stuff that makes me feel sick? Just woke up feeling like I have been run over by a bus. 😞 Ate junk late last night. So then I do not sleep well either. Even my legs are aching from this binge. Eating food that is personally not good for my particular body is just plain stupid behavior on my part. Why do I keep doing it?

I know what I need to do. Over the last month I had been taking so many pain meds for pain I had in my mouth. I tried just having natural things to help ease it. Anyway I know I need to help my body now get rid of any toxic residue from that. And then there was the antibiotics that I took for my mouth issues. Never really have taken antibiotics before. But those wreck havac in the digestive system. So I need and I do desire to fix that up as well now.

So all this junk food is not helping with any of that either. 😞

My plan of action today is to: make some juices, particularly some with beetroot and carrot as these are excellent to detoxify my liver from the toxins from the pain meds and antibiotics. Plus they add healthy bacteria to my digestive system (that the antibiotics wiped out)

I am very thankful though that I no longer feel pain in my mouth. Perhaps the infection and inflammation is all gone now. And I am not taking any more chemical pain relief stuff.

Sometimes I experience fear of not being healthy. I don't want to be ill.

I so much want to be motivated by love to take care of myself in this way, not motivated by fear.

Motivation is mixed up in all that as well.

Just got to pick myself up again.

Have not made any juice yet.

So far today I made and eaten a large salad.

I placed 3 handfuls of mixed green salad leaves in a large bowl. Then in the middle of that placed in some brown cooked basmati rice. Then around and inside the sides of my bowl I decorated it with small amounts of each :

oven tofu, edamane beans, cooked cubed sweet potato, shredded carrot and shredded purple cabbage, pieces of tomato, sultanas.

Then drizzled all that with a creamy carrot, sesame and ginger dressing. And topped with some sunflower seeds. It was all extremely yummy. I made enough for 2 days. So tomorrow my lunch is already prepped.

And 2 chocolate milkshakes. Using the ingredients I mentioned above

hi there Shell,

I love the name Golden Sunshine - my Grandma (passed on now) used to call me her little sunshine. So you reminded me of that - thank you 🙂 I am glad you are posting a bit - thanks for the milkshake - I love those milkshake cups you talk about - we had them too. Oh for the good old days hey.

Glad your mouth is healing. Mouth health links to much more in the body inc heart health and even the endocrine system, so important that your mouth is as healthy as possible. You know heaps about this stuff though and all the natural remedies. Your salads and smoothies/milkshakes are nice as always - sound nice to look at too.

I overate today (again) and feel like my stomach might burst. It has been so hot, stuck inside, all I seem to have been doing is filling up on ice cold and frozen things to try cool. But too much that my small stomach is stretched omg it is painful. And I think because so hot I am not thinking straight and just been a bit extra agitated/rash because of this - so just grabbing anything to eat without thinking. And now suffering with pain!

Oh well, we live and learn. Tomorrow is another day. Take care Shell. Waves to MM.

Oh you poor thing Golden sunshine with the pain and all. I feel for you. Wonder if rubbing some castor oil on your tummy may help?

Its a brand new day today, do you feel any better.

Will you tell me more about the link between heart health, the endocrine system and your mouth. But please don't feel pressured at all. I have experienced issues with all those three.

I am so glad the word Sunshine made you think of pleasant memories of your Grandma. I think MM mentioned the word sunshine in regards to you, so I just went with that.

Hi everyone! 👋

Gosh, Golden, your parents could have at least tried to be supportive. That's terrible and I'm sorry they weren't capable of being there for you when u probably needed them most.
Yes, I love seeds and nuts. I usually have them on yoghurt. I buy a fruit, seed, but mix.

Shell,
I'm glad your mouth is better and I'm sure you'll do all that you can to re-create balance in your body.

I think it's human nature to eat unhealthy things. We all do it. I think theyre's only very few of us who can stick to being healthy 90-100% of the time. And a lot of these people were probably brought up on only healthy food.
You have to have a lot of self control and discipline not to reach for the " junk".... But it just tastes sooo good. Yeah willpower. Shell next time you're tempted give yourself a little slap on the wrist and say no, I have willpower. Or eat a bit of it and throw the rest out.

I had such a yummy food day yesterday. I'm on track with my weight- loss ( suprisingly) bcas sometimes I think I'm eating too much but the KG's are dropping. Yay!

- gnocchi filled with 4 cheeses and baked beans

- home made fried rice

- coffee with cream

- grain bread s/ wich with chicken,bacon,tomato, lettuce,cheese

- cheddar and chives flavoured pea and pinto beans sticks ( a healthier chip)

- square of dark choc.

I also went to the gym y'day and had a 40 min weight workout.

I'm still drooling over that gnocchi. So good.

Never had gnocchi before, though I have heard of it. Are you still drinking juices or smoothies MM?

Yesterday I had:

A green drink that had barley grass, wheat grass, spirulina and moringa in it.

For lunch I made a huge wrap.

I will sometimes buy a packet of pita bread. The best one I have found is "nannas" wholewheat ones from woolworths. There are only a few ingredients in that one.

So I spread avocado on the pita bread, then I filled it with tomato, lettuce, spinach, grilled pineapple, onion and I made some patties and placed those on as well. Then drizzled a small amount of red balsamic vinegar on, then rolled up carefully. It did fall apart a bit when I was eating it.

The patties had: left over mashed brown rice, mashed chickpeas, green peas, grated carrot, onion, spelt flour and some spices. Cooked in the oven. First time making those. Super yummy.

I also ate some purple grapes and some cold potato chips. And 1 twirl chocolate.

The day before I ate that bowl of food I made the other day. The day I made two of.

Think it is working better for me to prep food before hand. I have some more of those patties in the fridge so will most likely eat those with some type of vegetables for lunch. It is also working better for me at the moment not to eat any dinner. I am not feeling hungry then anyway.

I'm always hungry at dinner!!! But in the mornings not so much.

I've been having a bit of a break from juices/ smoothies but will have one if I feel like it.

I heard this saying " you shouldn't drink your calories". Because I'm losing weight now I thought it's more filling to eat the fruits and veg. If I drink them I might not be as full and overcompensate with extra calories.

I was usually adding spinach to my smoothies but have now found out I need to consume less uric acid. I'm too high and it causes gout. Spinach has it. So do mushrooms, red meat, dates...etc...all the good stuff that I was eating. But I don't want gout. I've had pain in my joints so I think if I'm too high in uric acid I can have an outbreak. Lucky I got this blood test.

Your food sounds very nourishing again Shell!!! Keep it up!
