I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.
Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )
I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.
So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Just read your post again. Yes you are right I am learning new responses aren’t I. Did not quite see that before. It is now bringing thoughts to me about how the actual brain works in regards to habits. Habits sort of make a pathway in our brains. Cannot remember if it’s neurons. Nope my thoughts are now jumbled up. Anyway something about making a new pathway when you want old bad habits to go.
Anyway thanks again Paw Prints

Hi everyone
I had a bad day with food the other day. Like you Shelly I can get made at myself and question it. But I take it as one day at a time. Try work out what causes me to go back and try again the next day. I find that being over restrictive can be a trigger for me to. Maybe eating some 'bad' foods in small amounts in your everyday eating may help with avoiding binges. I find eating treats with people helps me avoid binges also. It also makes me not feel guilty as I am being social and I don't do it all the time.
Blue you sound lucky being able to eat post wisdom teeth surgery (not sure when it was done, sorry). When I got mine done took me around 2 weeks to eat normal again. I could only fit a tiny teaspoon in my mouth (some teaspoons were too big!) I was super swollen. But I wasn't in pain because it was managed well so it was ok. I had a gum infection before getting them out so my recovery wasn't as smooth aas others. But loads of custard was awesome

Hi ShelleyBelly!
V8 Vegatable juice is made in country Vic...Its been around since 1933....Its yummy except for people that cant let go of their childhood sweet tooth lol
Hey MsPurple....I understand that Campbells V8 Vegetable juice can be somewhat bland....I only drink the 'Hot & Spicy' now....Tomato...carrot...celery and a tint bit of Chilli. Its actually not that 'Hot'
Hope everyone is having a good weekend 🙂

Hello Ms Purple,
Yes it’s a good idea to take one day at a time. Or if that is a challenge even one meal at a time.
It is good you have worked out some ways to help yourself. Do you or did you have issues with binging as well?
Just allowing myself to even eat a tiny amount of junk, especially the addictive sugary kind can cause me to to stumble. Think alcoholic people. If they want to give up its best to abstain altogether as just a bit of alcohol can cause them to stumble as well. Whereas some people have no issues drinking alcohol and are not addicted to it. So yeah that is where I am at. I can easily become addicted to sugary foods. Perhaps you are one of those who are not really addicted to it? And can say no more easily.

Ms Purple, the surgery was about three weeks ago. It was about a week and a half before I could fit more than a teaspoon in my mouth, too, and all was pretty sore until then. My jaw was all swollen and square, I looked like Spongebob for a while. Likewise, there was much custard involved in my recovery - my lactose intollerance didn't thank me for that, haha.

Thanks so much for caring Shell. MOSTLY my meals are ok it's just snacking. Having read around the threads though I think what I'm going to do is concentrate on the walking, adding more veg and fruit each day, and at this stage not beating myself up about the snacks... slow changes

oh and p.s. Shelley - thanks so much for thinking of me re health anxiety. You're very thoughtful and kind to us all on here.
I don't want you, or anyone, to not talk about things that matter to you though. I find the anxiety is more around little twinges etc in my own body, I don't think other people's illnesses set me off. For example one of my children has a chronic illness and we've had to learn all about it and deal with that. Plus I cared for an aged parent for many years and dealt with many medical appts etc. but again THANK YOU for caring 🙂

Day 1 of no binging and junk
Brunch I made scrambled veg and tofu. (tofu, onion, tomato, spinach, mushroom, tomato paste, cumin, dried coriander leaves, turmeric powder, and veggie stock)
Dinner which I have just finished. I made a mushroom gravy. It was my first time making this. So so yum and so good.
I served the gravy with homemade chips,(par boiled then oven fried) broccoli and carrots.
Snacks - manderines, grapes and 2 hot chocolates made from hazelnut nut milk. First time making hazelnut milk too. Also pretty yum and so nice to have a warm tummy. This was sweetened with coconut sugar and real maple syrup.

Your welcome Annie, sounds like a good plan to eat plenty of vegetables and fruit. I sometimes buy a vegetable or a fruit that I have not tasted before. The last one was eggplant. Looks pretty funky actually.
And Thankyou for explaining your situation with health anxiety.
As you said you trip up on snacks, which is like me. Do you have any healthy snack recipes you could prepare in advance? So you could eat them instead.

Gee that is a lot of money, $2000 Blue. Well it seems a lot to me, but honestly I would not know. I am glad you are not experiencing any pain in your mouth, I guess that is something to be thankful for.
And I like custard too. So you say you are lactose intolerant. Do you buy the lactose free cows milk or do you drink soy milk? There are so many milks out there now hey. I made hazelnut milk today. It was so yummy. I just felt like experimenting. Anyway I made chocolate milk out of it.
Thankyou for all your encouraging words. It means a lot to me. And yes I understand it may take a while for new and better habits to stick.
And I have yet to make your falefal burgers. Sorry. But I will post in here when I do.
Thanks again Blue
