Dear All~
What this place is for:
This thread is a tool, a resource, and also I guess a dash of entertainment.
I’ve found that when life is grim that sometimes thoughts of past happiness can create a chink of light in the grey overwhelming press of down. They can help occupy the mind with lighter reflections.
With that in view I invite people to set down a brief passage describing some happy event they look back to with fondness and peace.
They - and others too - can then return to it when they feel the need to glean a little warmth.
It is not a place for gloomy or dire tales, those can go elsewhere.
What to do:
Just set out, as simply as you like, your recollection of some past experience that means something good to you, something you enjoyed, something from safe times.
It can be, like my story below, anything – from an account of visiting grandparents to simply cooking and eating a melted-cheese sandwich in a favorite kitchen – you get to choose.
How to do it:
Write. Write enough so someone else can feel the mood, know what happened, find the goodness. (stop at 2,500 characters please!)
Grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation are not compulsory, just write as you can – the only important thing is the content - not literary merit. Short or long - it does not matter.
I hope you enjoy, contribute and find a little distraction here when you need it.

Yeah that particular puddle was a special one to us for some reason.
Or the dog we'd have to ride past on the way to school. I remember we stopped one day to pat it, half an hour later we were still playing with the dog and chatting to the owner, mum drove past on her way to work - school had well and truly already started and we were still patting this dog

Hi Jackson,
Thankyou for sharing your memory about you and your brother. The little moments like those are the most beautiful to remember I find.
Here is one of mine. My sister.
Dark night. Full moon. Clear and cold. Standing and admiring the field of trees we have planted together. White birch. Ashes. Maples.
Laughing about wet socks and soggy feet as we get into the car. Muddy clothes. Tired and sore. Dog in the back nuzzling my hand.
Anticipation! What have you got for me? Music. Music. Music. Windows down. Cold air. Nah next! Ooh this is good. Turn it up! We laugh and sing like idiots. Happy.
Dark roads. Noone on the road. A favourite song. A song worthy of blaring out. She sings along. I smile and listen. Her voice is beautiful. Her joy is infectious. I am carefree in this exact moment.
The song ends at the exact time we turn into the driveway. But typical of home there is no quiet. I can hear the kids causing chaos in the shower. Mum pretending to shriek at being splashed.
I see the light of the fire through the window. Warmth and Family. This is home.

Actually your journey to where you are now, as documented throughout those areas, is a very happy memory

A bit of a random memory today but one that makes me happy...
A sliver of light shines through the curtain. Lights up the mobile over the cot. A quiet lullaby. Lions and elephants twirling. My little one fast asleep at last with the tail of his toy over his nose as usual sucking his fingers. So much love in my heart feels like it will explode. So very tired.
Hubby is watching a movie. Pats the couch and offers a cup of tea. Mmm Earl Grey. My favourite. Head on his shoulder, half asleep. He suggests a hot bath and an early night.
You've been very tired lately hon. Your son doesn't like to sleep. He laughs. Sure sure maybe you're pregnant again. We laugh. Yeah right hon. Doc says that wont happen any time soon.
I laugh to myself as I pour the bath. Test waiting on the counter. I plan to tease him and say it's positive. No point wasting the test though. Bubbles in the bath. Steam fills the room. I smell peaches. In the mirror something catches my eye.
You ok hon? He looks up with a smile. Sees the test and my stunned face. Very funny hon. Hillarious. He laughs. I don't. Silence. Realisation dawns. Serious? I nod. Pass over the test and sit beside him. He stares at it. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. Maybe both. He grins and starts to laugh. I grin and burst into tears.
Wrapped in a hug so tight and so warm I never want it to end. We sit curled up with eachother and watch the movie. Every few minutes one of us starts laughing and sets the other off. He switches off the tv. Come to bed hon. I raise an eyebrow and tease... Careful husband that's what got us in this position in the first place. His smile is dazzling.
We stop to check on our son. I watch as he leans down to fix the blanket. The look on his face is tender. Guards utterly down this is the face only I see. This is the man noone else knows. The one who sings lullabyes off key and wears earmuffs while rocking a fussy baby so I can sleep. He looks up and catches me out staring.
I don't need to say the words. He knows what I'm thinking. I love you too hon.... But bloody hell I hope it's not twins!
Our laughter wakes the baby.

A memory from when I was 8 (26 years ago hehe). We'd moved into a new house and my bedroom was near the kitchen. Dad worked as a bricklayer so was up very early in the mornings. The noise of Dad having his breakfast would wake me up. So each morning before he left for work he'd come in to my room with a small glass of apple juice, give me a kiss and tuck me into bed again. I felt safe and loved.

Dear Quercus and Emmy~
Quercus: I've said it all to you before, your ability to show the joy in life is an absolute balm, I'm grateful, you give me something I need when I come here.
Emmy: I'm very glad you posted here, as you know the idea is to have a place people can come when feeling down to be reminded of some happy part of their lives - and to be lifted by the happiness of others.
Thank you

So I had a pretty horrible weekend (not going into details) but I just felt low anyways.
But then I went to dads Sunday night for dinner. And his dog just sad on my lap. Normally he doesn't stay too long especially if dad is going in and out of the house for the bbq. But he just say there, giving me love and asking for pats. It just made me feel so loved and cared for. I ended up staying the night and in the morning Maxxie scratched on my bedroom door and I let him in. He then curled up on the bed and was all snuggly and cute. I just love how dogs know when you are down and they know exactly what to do to help you. It is amazing.
I feel like in all these happy posts I mention dogs in them. But I feel like they are my spirit animal. I wish I could have a dog at my place, but I live with a housemate in an apartment so we can't. I want to get a rescue dog when i get one 🙂 I also like watching the rescue dogs getting a new home videos. Melt my heart every time
