Dear All~
What this place is for:
This thread is a tool, a resource, and also I guess a dash of entertainment.
I’ve found that when life is grim that sometimes thoughts of past happiness can create a chink of light in the grey overwhelming press of down. They can help occupy the mind with lighter reflections.
With that in view I invite people to set down a brief passage describing some happy event they look back to with fondness and peace.
They - and others too - can then return to it when they feel the need to glean a little warmth.
It is not a place for gloomy or dire tales, those can go elsewhere.
What to do:
Just set out, as simply as you like, your recollection of some past experience that means something good to you, something you enjoyed, something from safe times.
It can be, like my story below, anything – from an account of visiting grandparents to simply cooking and eating a melted-cheese sandwich in a favorite kitchen – you get to choose.
How to do it:
Write. Write enough so someone else can feel the mood, know what happened, find the goodness. (stop at 2,500 characters please!)
Grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation are not compulsory, just write as you can – the only important thing is the content - not literary merit. Short or long - it does not matter.
I hope you enjoy, contribute and find a little distraction here when you need it.

Dear Quirky~
I'm so pleased for you , I know how much it must mean. I wear mine every day too, but that's simply becuse its stuck on nowadays. When I've had an op they just tape over it.
I know what the inscription inside said, but I suspect it has pretty well worn down by now

I'm creating new happy memories today. I have wanted a swimming pool for a long time and it has not happened. I have now scrubbed out the old bath, dragged it under a tree, have filled it with water and will plonk myself in it later on this morning. It is already 30 degrees outside so the water temperature should be a bit more pleasant now. It was a little cool when I first filled it up.

What a great idea! Wish I could do the same. You get me imagining if it would be at all possible, like, if I was to get a portable tub, a hose I could fit to my laundry sink, & fill it on my back porch....& mmm emptying? That would be a fair amount of water to be tipping into the (so-called) garden below. I don't think I could lift & or drag it to spill all the water over the lawn or into the other so-called garden along the back fence. mmmm? If I lest it filled, it may become a breeding pond for zillions of mozzies, or a place for a little kid to be tempted ....we could not have that. I can't fence it off.
Otherwise, I LOVE the idea!

As this is a 'Happy Memories" post: I do remember how the neighbouring family had one of those round above ground pools. We kids would get in & run round & round in circles, creating a whirlrpool, then as one, would stop & allow the swirling water to carry us along, round & around .... Somethimes we'd get so enthusiac the water would be sloshing out, & sometimes part of it would collapse & all the water would then spill out everywhere!

Hi mmMeKetty,
How about a bucket of water to put your feet in on a hot day, simple enough to empty.
Or one of those clam shell plastic play things (you can fill with sand for children) you could get enough water in one of them to sit in. Hang a length of hose in it and use it as a syphon to empty out the water onto the garden.
I've left the water in the bath for now for the birds and have placed some wire netting in it for the birds to be able to get out.
As children, Mum would hang blankets and sheets over the clothes line for shelter and would fill tubs and crates up with water for us, it all went onto the lawn after. Hours of cool fun with no sun burn!

Hello Dools,
Oh thank you for your memory... I had forgotten about my mum doing the same thing for us until I read your post... we had a small canvas paddling pool... she used to sit on a chair & watch us sometimes dipping her feet in the water...
