SLEEP

Hi All,

In the past there may have been threads on sleep and how to improve our quality of sleep.

I am starting this thread up and hope to include past thread titles.

For some of us sleep is a real issue, the more we can learn about it the better informed we will be.

Funny stories on weird places you have fallen asleep are welcome as well.

For me, I had just moved house and was very busy getting everything organised. Friends invited me to the drag races. I was so tired and exhausted that I sat down, leant against the fence right near the starting line and fell asleep for most of the evening.

Hope to read some of your stories and tips.

Cheerio for now, from Mrs. Dools

Hi ewrc,

Welcome to this thread. Would you like to elaborate on your thoughts regarding being scared of what sleeping brings.

Do you suffer from nightmares? Is that what you are afraid of?

Sleep is very important to all of us. It is a time when the body can rest and restore itself.

If you want to make further comments, you are more than welcome to.

Cheers for now from Mrs. Dools

when i sleep it brings up memories, things i don't want to remember. Trying to sleep gives me time to think, which does that same. Then when i sleep, sometimes it tricks me into thinking things are good again, so when i wake up it doesnt kick in, life feels like it used to. Until i remember what it's like now.

Hi ewrc,

Are you saying that in your dreams you relive stuff from your past? My dreams never seem to relate to anything I have ever experienced before, so I suppose that is a good thing. Generally I don't remember what they were anyway.

I do understand how just laying there waiting for sleep is a time for our brains to start to wander and think about stuff.

Have you tried listening to soft music before you go to bed or some other sounds like CDs of waves or rain storms?

If you look up Sleep Hygiene on Google you will find a lot of suggestions for making the bedroom more enticing for sleep.

One person recommended counting back from 100 in 3s. I did that a few times over and my brain just became confused!

None of us can go back and live yesterday or the day before that over again. In the morning I try to be thankful for the new day and consider what I can do to make this new day better. It doesn't always work, for me accepting that each day will not be the same helps a little.

Hope you manage to find a few ideas and techniques that will help you. Let me know.

Cheers for now from Mrs. Dools

listening to binaural beats can confuse me and stunt my thoughts, making it slightly easier to sleep. The problem with me is that i don't want to 'just let go' of the things that have happened as i cherish those memories. I really hope i can move on.

Hi ewrc,

Instead of your memories interfering with your sleep, could you write them down. Some people make a time about an hour or so before they want to sleep, to write down what ever they are thinking about.

If you have any hassles or unpleasant memories, you can tell yourself you can deal with them tomorrow. I'm not sure how successful that will be, you could try.

At times we need to get our brains out of the rut they have been stuck in and try to reprogram our way of thinking.

Thanks for the help!

I think i'll just figure out another way to sleep, the past few nights it's been staying up until i start having microsleeps then fall asleep so i have no time to sleep.

Last night i did have a dream about things, but it wasn't a memory, it was what things used to be like. Normally i go lucid and force myself to wake up, but this time i just wanted it to be real that badly.

I hope you sleep well though! 🙂

Hi ewrc,

My sleep isn't that great, it is more due to physical issues rather than mental.

Are there ways you can make your NOW better than yesterday?

Can you make plans for tomorrow being better than today?

I have learnt that I can't go back in time, what I can do is try to make the most of today and consider how I will spend tomorrow. It doesn't always work out, it is worth giving it a go.

for the past few days i've just been tired lol. I tested and every 3 hours i can have a 6 hour sleep. After months of insomnia it seems the fatigue has gotten to me, i just can't NOT sleep now. I'm asleep for longer than i am awake!

Hi ewrc,

Has anything changed to make you now feel so sleepy?

Depression can certainly make people feel very tired and lethargic.

Would you consider seeing a Dr. if the tiredness continues?

Hope you are doing okay. Cheers from Mrs. Dools
