Share your achievements, small or big!

Another nice little topic to chat about 🙂

It's really important to those of us with mental issues to hold on to our achievements and successes, especially the ones over our illnesses. Each and every achievement, no matter how small you might think it is, is so important. We should celebrate and take pride in each achievement- because each one is a step towards recovery.

So in this topic I'd like us to share our successes. You can post as often as you like, every time you have an achievement or success you'd like to share (even if you think "but it wasn't that big a deal"). Yes it IS a big deal! Fighting an illness is hard work, so lets celebrate all our achievements!

When i first fought my anxiety, my very very first challenge was to drive to the local shops. And I achieved it, and boy did I celebrate. Might not sound like much to someone else, but to me it was like climbing Mount Everest while wearing shorts and thongs (i imagine). So you better believe I went home and danced around my house celebrating my success!

My most recent achievement I am celebrating is: I attended my first job interview in 3 years that i did NOT take any anti-anxiety medication whatsoever for. Every other interview in the last 3 years i've needed strong anti-anxiety medication. But after much therapy and hard work, i learned more and more coping skills. I was nervous about not taking the medication as I was so used to doing it, but not only did i get through the interview but i did it calmly and kept my anxiety well under control. I'm pretty proud of myself!

(Also I got the job- yay- but unfortunately i cant accept it due to other reasons. But I'm still celebrating being offered a job!!!)

So lets hear it! Whats a recent achievement, positive step or success you made? Take pride in it and celebrate it!!

I dont necessarily see this as being an achievement as such but on Sunday I went for a bike ride in the afternoon as it was a lovely day. Ive been meaning to do this for some time and finally got off my butt to do it. It made me feel really good. Im planning on doing this every weekend when the weather is fine enough to do it. My goal is to get to Jell's Park and back, some 14ks which is a long way for me. Sure beats sitting around feeling depressed and doing nothing.

Congratulations radiojammer!

On Tuesday a close friend asked me to repair a doll. It has a porcelain head, hands & feet. The rest is soft stuffing. Well the legs & arms had all come off. I evaluated the job & time deadline & knew I could do it.

So yesterday comes - nope! I couldn't possibly do that! Not talented enough/ not clever enough/ can't possibly do it. (Even though my rational mind knew it would be a cinch).

Today - feeling mounting time pressure - no I can't do it/yes of course I can!!!!!!!! What! No way!

Well yes way! Did it this afternoon! Turned out good. Friend thrilled with job & very grateful.

Well done me!!

Now to sit back & wait for the next mental battle. If only the good feeling from this mini achievement could be "banked" to help with the next challenge, but it doesn't seem to work like that.

Hi,

Awesome achievements galore here 😊 Well done everyone!

I had a bit of a rough night last night and was tempted to cancel seeing my friends tonight (& crawl into bed for the next 12 hours to mope)

BUT...

I decided that I'm going to follow through so my achievement is not cancelling and avoiding my friends.

I have now showered and will be getting ready to go out with said friends...on that note, I'm off 😊

I'm feeling terribly anxious and nervous about tomorrow (I'm starting a new work for the dole placement), but I still managed to get out of bed at 8:30 and take Buddy outside

Hi Everyone,

We've had my sister staying with us for a few days.

As the weather has not been nice enough to spend time outside and she has been rather ill, we have spent a lot of time inside chatting and crocheting. I have almost completed a blanket I am crocheting.

My sister thanked me for encouraging her with her own crochet project and for taking her to the shops so she could buy more wool.

So I feel like I have "achieved" twice, once for me and once for my sister as well.

Cheers all from Mrs. Dools

Hi,

Music_Freak, well done on the 8:30am start and taking Buddy outside!

Mrs. Dools, congratulations on your dual achievement! Double the fun!

Today:

- That in 5 weeks time, I'm officially on the uni summer holidays (where you can all look forward to being spared of my complaining about uni for 3 months ha, ha).
