Hi Everybody
This is only the basic dictionary definition...
"Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment without judgement"
- Please be as blunt you wish....If you dont have an idea about mindfulness it would be great if you could let us know
- If mindfulness hasnt worked/or is too broad a concept for you it would great if you can let us know your thoughts too
- If mindfulness has helped you, please help others to help themselves by posting how you have embraced this mindset
It goes without saying that the forums are a judgement free zone and I really hope that everyone can jump in and have their say
Your input is highly valued no matter how you respond to this topic. There are no experts here...New Posters are Most Welcome!!
My Kindest Thoughts
Paul

Hi Quirky
If you’re on this forum, and you’re using google, you’re not too slow to learn 🙂
I’ve had a lot of help from my daughter when it comes to all this.
You can get apps on an iPhone (I don’t know about other brands) - you have to open the ‘app store’ and search for the one you want / have heard about. There’s a lot of free ones... hope this helps

Thanks Rusty I will look that up.
I sort of know what mindfulness is but everyone experiences it in a different way. I must accept my mind will often be thinking but I can still focus and be in the moment.

Hi Everyone and thank-you heaps for your help on 'Mindfulness' as there seems to be many people like me that do struggle with the meaning. It can be a difficult concept after being taught to use 'distraction' and 'grounding' techniques for so long
Hey annie_1....Your posts are always helpful, and your info re the apps is appreciated 🙂
Hey Rusty Girl....Thanks for the link reachout. com where mindfulness is concerned.....If you have any tips you are always welcome to share!
Hey Quirky...always a bonus to have your heartfelt 'take' on so many topics. I have a 'clinical' understanding of mindfulness yet the term still puzzles me...as per my opening paragraph in this post.
Hey Spitfire 1.....appreciate you helpful post...especially when you mentioned the 'Smiling Minds' app and....the correct method where breathing is concerned......"breathing in and out and being conscious of belly and chest breaths" This is a very important point Spitfire as just taking 'Deep Breaths' can sometimes exacerbate anxiety to the point of hyperventilation
my kindest always
Paul
Have a great Friday too 🙂

Re Smiling Mind....I've heard such good things about it, I want to get it on my new smartphone (which scared me silly but I am becoming gradually more adventurous with it) I am not sure how to get it on my phone.
I read that it is free, so will try and overcome my fear and try to instal it tonight...will I be able to manage that folks do you think?)

It looks though I have the app on my smartphone so I hope I can "work it". I don't think it deals with "mindfulness" exactly does it....which is OK. as I have described before, my experiences of mindfulness have occurred within myself.
Does anyone else gain a lot from Smiling Mind? I have heard good reports of it.

Yes I've got Smiling Mind but no, it won't work for me. Asked me for my password....I didn't put a password in, when I downloaded it.
asks me some other questions before I can begin and I can't understand the questions re account? what account? I have looked it up multiple times to check that the app is free, so what account?
so just having Smiling Mind on my phone has caused even more anxiety .....I just go round and round in circles..No one here to help me. terrible feeling.

Moon,
I relate to your post.
Passwords- I have spent many hours telling or yelling at the computer that I don't have a password, never did.
I know I was on a site to relax me but I ended up stressed!! People who are totally relaced with apps ect do not know how overwhelming it can be.
Moon lets just close our eyes and dream of a password free world!!
