Hi Everybody
This is only the basic dictionary definition...
"Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment without judgement"
- Please be as blunt you wish....If you dont have an idea about mindfulness it would be great if you could let us know
- If mindfulness hasnt worked/or is too broad a concept for you it would great if you can let us know your thoughts too
- If mindfulness has helped you, please help others to help themselves by posting how you have embraced this mindset
It goes without saying that the forums are a judgement free zone and I really hope that everyone can jump in and have their say
Your input is highly valued no matter how you respond to this topic. There are no experts here...New Posters are Most Welcome!!

Mindful, not mind full
CMF - brilliance personified.
Paul - you are far to kind with your words as I do not consider myself an expert on it at all, far from it but I am happy that my thoughts are positively impacting on you. In the immortal words of Kosmo Kramer...giddee up!!

Excellent thread guys.
I was introduced to mindfulness or mindlessly as I like to call it and it totally changed my perception of the world around me.
I started to see the beauty in everything and how everything around me was a pure miracle, I had totally missed the target of life for 40 years as mind was clogged with negative, judgemental, nasty thoughts this technique helped me weed through all the crap.
I can recommend a guy on YouTube Eckhart Tolle who does a sterling job of explaining everything he has also written several books the power of now and a new earth

Hi Mancity
Thankyou for the super complimentary post 🙂
I like the term 'mindlessness' as it seems to bring some more peace where the written word is concerned!
Mancity mentioned "I started to see the beauty in everything and how everything around me was a pure miracle, I had totally missed the target of life for 40 yearsas mind was clogged with negative, judgemental, nasty thoughts this technique helped me weed through all the crap"
Your post is a gift Mancity and thankyou for it. I am still trying to do the same as you and MarkJT mentioned

Hello
TThese are just my thoughts.
This is hard to do......Im thinking that your mind has to be at least 3/4 quiet before mindfulness is even attempted..
5 things in nature seems to work... but once I pick up on the noises ie: birds bees winds dogs etc they really begin to crowd my mind and annoy me and bug me because I can't get them out again until I go inside.
I will keep reading and practicing.
Maybe I'm a bit slow at grasping the concept to mindfulness.

Nice to see you on this thread Ggrand.
No such thing as slow as we are all on a journey.
Paul encourages questions and sharing how we are going. I am often struggling with mindfulness as my mind is over active but I keep trying!!
I think you have to find the thing that works for you . I am still looking. it differs for everyone .
It is great you are trying. I am sure others will offer more helpful advice but I wanted to say hello and welcome.

Hi Ggrand and thanks for the great post too!
I love what you wrote "This is hard to do......Im thinking that your mind has to be at least 3/4 quiet before mindfulness is even attempted.." I think this is spot on. Its very hard to quell a racing mind when we are feeling mentally spent or are experiencing high level anxiety.
Thanks Quirky for your help and input. Its always great to read how far you have come
Have a good day everyone

Greetings all and especially the new members on the thread, so mind is cluttered at the moment and mega busy at work and home life so had my morning run and then settled in for some mindfulness practice.
Switched on the "Smiling Mind" app which was a failure as could not concentrate. Jumped onto "Buddhify" and like SM, failed. Hmm what to do - switched to music and stretching. Success, well not complete success but it did allow me to drift off and forget everything else for a while, while i settled down.
Message is that even sometime tried and proven methods do not work - chop and change until you reach something that is working, even just a little bit.
Takes practice, practice and more practice.
Keep going y'all!

what a reassuring post. I like the idea that one size does not fit all and we need to adjust it until it shut us. It may not suit out needs every day so we must be adaptable.
Thanks for your common sense.
