Hi everyone

Members often refer in their posts to books and other resources that have helped them. This thread is a place to list those books so all members can find them easily.

The titles might include scholarly, mass market and self-help books, specialist websites or blogs, podcasts, vodcasts or print or online journals or magazines. Please note BB has a list of websites and resources under Get Help, so maybe check there first for online resources. (Also note that we cannot include live links to online resources.)

To make things easy to find, please put the category of the content first in bold, then the title of the book and then, if you want, a brief comment.

Please note that anything listed here reflects the member's views only. Publications and other resources are not necessarily endorsed by beyondblue.

Happy reading!

Also the Ted Talk on Self-Compassion by Dr. Kristin Neff. I liked it because she gives some practical examples of how to practise self compassion.
I was so lost and unable to love myself. This helped me a little. It is just really an introduction although I dont think I fully grasped the concepts until years later. Still a great reminder and intro from a respected researcher who has some lived experience with struggle and challenge

Two books that I have been reading are The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel van der Kolk - it is all about the effects that trauma has on the mind and body and strategies to overcome it. I found it a bit full on at times and I had to put it down then come back to it later but overall it is very informative and helpful. I have also been reading Getting Past Your Past which is written by the therapist who invented EMDR therapy. It has lots of different strategies that you can use to help move on from past events.

Thank you Fred the Body Keeps the Score is truly a great book on trauma. Have heard of Getting Past Your Past, also - very interesting.
Anyone read The Happiness Trap? I've dipped into it and enjoyed.

LOVE Kristen Neff!
Thankyou Sleepy for putting her name on my thread, she has really helped me so much! And you have too...what's your book's name? And I'm not joking.

I sent the Happiness Trap to my bf in the U.S. and he loved it. Pretty cute book, I like it. My neighbour had about 8 copies and kindly let me borrow one 🤣😂 I'm loving emojis lol.

Last Sunday I bought "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz. I read the whole book the same day, it's not long. LIKE it very much. I also bought the CDs and gave them to my eldest D who had thrown a tanty that weekend. She listens to podcasts etc alot and she was glad to have it.

You can get to a point, when reading alot of these types of books that they feel very repetitive - or repeating what you've already read elsewhere. Which is good I guess.

I AM LOVE LOVE LOVING "You are the Placebo" By Dr Joe Dispenza, seriously I CANNOT get enough of this man's work! OMG he explains the difficult time between leaving our mental health issues behind and becoming well. NO ONE else has been able to explain why I felt SO WEIRD recently, the intensive therapy and homework ugh is really working. Such a New World - pun intended lol.
Joe did.
And it can be so easy to slip back into the known.
Once my days were going well, my dreams or nightmares began - it was my body needing it's "fix".

But Dr Joe's Meditation CDs have worked really well here.

Love EM

I have just read Mind Full by Dermot Whelan. He is an Irish Comedian turned mindfulness teacher. I guess I always felt that I would just be able to meditate when I was feeling overwhelmed but he shows why it's important to make mindfulness and mediation part of your everyday routine so you are better prepared for when the overwhelming times hit. I found his book funny and very helpful and I thought that some of you might to 😊

Beating The Blues was something i was told to read, it might help some. it has activities inside it too.

there's also some few mental health pages that are positive, such as positive quotes, on Facebook, i'm not sure if they're on other social media sites and have websites, and i can't remember the name, sorry.

i also found a channel on Youtube that also has a Facebook page called Psych2Go.

Cartier I will look that book up.
