Hi Everyone,
If you hadn't noticed, we are now in 2017! For some of us, 2016 was not so flash in parts with some events being experiences we would rather forget.
Guess what! This is a NEW YEAR! We can all start over again!
I know there has been great hardship and tragedy in so many people's lives, I truly acknowledge that and my heart felt best wishes go out to you all.
For me, I am going to try hard to make this the best year I can!
I'm going to work on improving my health mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
I'm going to find different ways to make the most of each day, to laugh more and have some fun.
A trip to the library will help me find some comical books to read or maybe one on a place I have dreamt about visiting.
I will eventually drag the tent out of the shed and set it up, even if it is just in the back yard.
I will look in my garden for flowers or nice looking foliage to place in a vase on the table.
Oh! There are so many things to experience and try.
Who wants to join me in making 2017 a year of experiencing new and different things or revitalising past hobbies and interests?
Okay, anyone have any suggestions for what they hope to do this year?
Today is a brand new day! Grab hold of it and embrace it!
Cheers all from Dools

A very happy New Year to you Dools. Thank you for a really inspiring post.
I stopped making new year resolutions a while ago. It's a good idea but I so often fail that I gave up the idea. Instead, and in some ways this is a new year resolution, I try to make every day joyous in some way. It may be getting out of bed without the desire to crawl back in, eating only good food for the day although this can be tricky, getting some exercise other than walking round the house, and all sorts of other activities.
You said, I'm going to work on improving my health mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. It's huge commitment but I will join you in that endeavour. Got a long way to on this and in reality I think it's a never ending journey, but I find so many rewards along the road that keep me going.
I wish everyone a happy and bright new year. As they say at weddings, may all your troubles be little ones.

Hi Dools & Mary.
I sat down on NYD & discussed my goals for 2017 with my husband. Most of which could be summarised by your statement I'm going to work on improving my health mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually''.
I have a document on my computer so each year I review my goals & then modify to suit. Saves writing a whole new document & helps remind me what is important. I have written what I want things to be like & why. I find the why helps motivate me. I then list what I will try to do to achieve this. I try to keep things doable rather than idealistic. Nothing worse than aiming too high & failing!!!. Example I want to improve or maintain physical health. Why- So I can do things I enjoy or are important to me. (I get very frustrated & depressed when I am too sick or tired to do things I normally enjoy) How- 1. Maintain my weight by weighing weekly and going back on my diet if I start to put on weight. Hopefully that will stop me having to lose more than a kg @ a time. 2. Exercise for 30min a day eg walking, swimming etc. 3. Supervise my husband with his exercises. (His condition is deteriorating & he has been given very specific exercises to reduce this deterioration as far as poss. He is blind so he can't read the instructions Hence my role of supervising.
I have similar things for the other goals. I have deliberately tried to keep things simple & flexible to give me the best chance of success. Obviously everyone will have different ideas of what works for them. I have also typed up a list of things I'd like to do including walks & short or long trips. My aim is to choose something on the list to do when I have some time or want to go away. Because of my husband's condition we can't always plan ahead. We need to grab opportunities when he is well, the weather is suitable & we have no appointments. I'm hoping the list will help. He is anxious to do what he can before it is too late'' We have no idea how long it will be before he is too disabled to go for walks or do other things he enjoys.
I read something about living a life of no regrets. It said we need to write down what we want to do/ achieve in our life & then plan on doing these things so we don't look back and think I wish I had.....

You're on Mrs Dools! Conscious effort to stay positive. To not think too far ahead, or expect things to be what I want them to be.
I will study and learn, I hope I will work but if I don't, I'll keep volunteering and make the most of my time out of the workforce. I will watch my anger. I'll enjoy the highs when they hit and, with help, ride out the downs when they hit.
Sounds like a plan.

Hi Ladies,
Thanks for posting some great replies already! 2017, here we go!
Elizabeth, I like the thought of actually writing down what I hope to achieve and why and also realise I need to make my desires achievable.
Mary, yes, it is a never ending journey, just look out for the bright spots along the way!
Kaz, expectations can bite us at times can't they! I'm going to work on what is possible in reality.
I also acknowledge the best made plans can blow up in our faces. That is okay, there is always tomorrow!
Cheers again ladies, have an excellent day thinking of how you can make this year different!

Hi Mrs D and all who've posted;
I've been looking forward to 2017 as it's my year to shine. That's my resolution.
My leftover goals from last year, although scary, have the capacity to change my world for the better. I've evolved to a point where achieving them is now possible, even probable.
I wish you all my best and know we'll continue to make BB a treasure for us and those crying out for help.
Happy New Year!

Cheers to a new year!
For me, it's all about balance, I think that last year, I just didn't have my priorities straight and I didn't pass two units an university and it really affected my mental health.
This year, I will be spending more face to face quality time with family and friends, put in a greater effort into my school work, exercise daily and take care of myself with what I eat and self care like relaxation and de-stress in general, and I also have a few goals with some clubs that I am a part of, like finishing certain projects with my Toastmasters club!
Hope 2017 is a great year for everyone!

Happy 2017 everyone,
I have been reading a few of the threads re resolutions for 2017. In the past I haven't had any goals because I would forget them within days!
However after reading other people's goals, I decided to pick & choose & modify theirs (I hope they weren't copywritten/copywrited lol)
So here is my list -
a fun day trip once a month with my husband to maintain our relationship.
learning a new recipe each week,
start a veggie garden - a long held dream
try to relax more with meditation,
join in some activities - craft group
practice being assertive
practice smiling and laughing more
being thankful for what I have
being kind to others
throw away clothes that do not look good or do not fit (stop keeping them in the hope I lose cm/kg)
live in accordance with my personal principles and beliefs
I thank all of you for sharing your hopes. For the first time in years I feel hopeful at the beginning of January.
Cheers everyone, Lyn.

Hi Lyn,
I agree. Great list.
Yesterday I was in the garden where I am trying to clean up quite a large patch. I looked in front of me and thought "Goodness me. There is still so much to do!"
Then I looked behind me and changed my thinking to "Look what I have managed to achieve already."
Some days it is about perspective, attitude and acceptance.
Today I was in the shops and was very proud of myself when I walked right past the chocolate isle. Instead I bought myself some green tea flavoured with lychees as a treat.
Forme, it is about making small changes and recognising what I am able to achieve.
Cheers all from Dools
