Hey Bananie1234
Thankyou for taking the time to reply with your excellent post!
You made a great point when you mentioned 'i'm feeling more disconnected and detached as the days go by, i'm grateful that we've got the technology to keep in touch with our loved ones but in the end, it's just not the same in the end'....You have just read my mind Bananie1234!
I was brought up in Ontario Canada and I feel for the kids here in Vic (anywhere) that cant go back to school..
Beyond Blue commenced in October 2000....I joined in 2016. I have never been to Queensland...seriously...(Bucket List lol)
you are an asset to the forums Bananie1234

Hi Bananie1234
Thankyou for your post, I know it's awful to be feeling all these things but it is also honest and authentic.
It's not to be ashamed about cutting out social media and drastically reducing watching the media... it's a GOOD coping mechanism!
Looking at our anthropology, a few hundred years ago we only had to cope with what was happening in our family, clan / mob / tribe and whatever effected these... now we take on the woes of the world flashing before our eyes accessible 24/7.
Our physiology hasn't changed that much in those years but our world has and what we're exposed to.
I went off all social media around 2y ago.
I ditched all news reports etc in March this year.
I sought more specialised help from a psychologist - still have my Counsellor.
We have to ask ourselves if what is common is actually normal?
If our MH is negatively effected by media of any type then it's not good for us... I don't think it's normal being exposed to so much anyway.
We've had to make rapid changes to our way of living, travelling, everything and that's very difficult. I could never have foreseen the far reaching impacts it would have on my family either.
But it has. I've brought "my world" down to the microcosm of what I CAN do.
Keeping in touch in a 1:1 way has been an interesting journey since most ppl use social media etc but it's also been a bonding experience. I can't see them but they know I care. Right now, that means the world to people.
We care about what you're going through too Bananie... I'm so glad you found the forums.
I hope you stay and keep sharing.

Hi Everyone! New posters are always welcome too 🙂
Thanks heaps for your super support EM!
I was watching Bathurst today.....the qualifying...before the big race on Sunday..(The real Grand Final!)
I didnt know that Queensland/NSW still had their borders closed as there were teams that couldnt go to NSW to race. Being in stage 4 restrictions for so long in Victoria I didnt know the NSW restrictions were tougher than Queensland's
I grow weary of Covid-19 yet I think the restrictions are required...
my kindest always

Far more important than any Grand Final (In my opinion!!!) was yesterday's premier conference!!!
When we heard the time limit was removed & 5km changed to 25km my husand wanted me to plan a long bushwalk ASAP. We have both missed decent walks. Today was busy but we still went to a nearby lake for a walk. The lake was one of our favourite spots but just over 5km away.
Yesterday we went for a walk with my son & grandsons He lives close so it was legal. Unfortunately walking back my husband fell & was hit in the eye with his cane. I cleaned it up when we got home but was unable to see the eye & was worried about the amount of swelling & pain so we went to the hospital. f course there was the usual long wait but finally was seen & told there was no long term damage although the eye itself was swollen & bruised (hence the pain) I shared this because the experience made me thankful for the lockdown & control of the virus. I felt safe taking him knowing the staff would do everything to reduce the risk of transmitting Corona virus but most importantly because there are so few cases the hospital was well staffed & the staff weren't stressed or overworked as tey were in the height of the pandemic. This meant we were confident my husband could get the best treatment for his injury.
I still look forward to further easing of restrictions but I'm happy to know things are being controlled to reduce the risk of another wave of infections. This has helped my stress levels.

Hi Everyone!
Hey Elizabeth....I hope your husband is doing okay. Thankyou for mentioning 'the experience made me thankful for the lockdown & control of the virus' and thus the quality of medical care . Great point !
The restrictions will ease like you mentioned...I am surprised that some people think that wearing a mask is a sign of weakness or an infringement of their 'civil rights'....Its just a piece of fabric....Its no big deal for me. Im proud to wear one to prevent droplet transmission
I have accepted these stage4 restrictions now....and about a '3' My peace of mind is back 🙂
my kind thoughts...Paul

Paul said marks are just a piece of fabric....Its no big deal
They have been shown to be a big deal!! Your point I'm proud to wear one to prevent droplet transmission is the true point. Wearing a mask is a sign that we care about everyone around us. We don't want to risk spreading the virus & by wearing the mask even when we are sure we are well we are setting an example to encourage others to do the same. Lets all do the simple things which have been shown to help so we can control the virus so everyone can get back to a life they deserve whether that is the business owner getting back to work, the employee having a job, the child going to school or the vulnerable person being able to get the health care they need (not just corona related) and all of us being able to socialise as we want.

Hi Everyone!
Hey Elizabeth....I have always been a huge fan of wearing a mask....and for me its not the big deal some people make it out to be! Thankyou for understanding the importance of wearing a mask during this global pandemic!
I am more than certain that our level 4 restrictions will be lifted this weekend (just my take on reading between the lines) I understand that many people reading the forums dont live in Victoria...and other states have their own restrictions they have to cope with too
Bathurst NSW....no spectators/crowds....I didnt know that NSW still had crowd restrictions until last weekend with the 2020 Supercar race (its only once a year)
Thankyou for speaking from the heart Elizabeth...
my kindest...Paul

Unsure about this Sunday. There was a chance of lifting restrictions but now with this outbreak in Nth metro that may change. Hopefully everyone concerned follows the instructions & gets tested/ isolated.
I haven't felt well this week. The hospital visit on Sunday was tiring & stressful. Then although doctors said there was nothing serious he was in a lot of pain as his eye was very swollen (not just the eyelid & he can't take painkillers. There has been a lot of appointments this week for him leaving me feeling on high alert.
The low case numbers are reassuring but I'm scared to get too hopeful.

Hi Everyone
Hey Elizabeth....I am sure these restrictions will be lifted on sunday.....
There has been a Bunnings advert saying "We miss you Melbourne....we will be open soon" Its just my opinion that some retail might reopen on Wednesday
Google 'uk covid' and have a look at the graph...The United Kingdom has 21,238 new cases yesterday
We had 1 new case in Vic yesterday 🙂

Yes having 2 children one working as a health professional in the UK I am very aware of the situation in the UK.
Seeing how quickly the numbers increased here in Melbourne & how hard we had to lockdown to get them under control I'm glad our state gov't ignored all the complainers & locked down as long as it took to get us to this point. Hopefully things continue to improve but I did feel angry at the protesters yesterday risking everything by defying the rules.
I don't like the blaming. We need to look for what happened & what we can learn to stop it happening again but that is compromised if we just pick someone to blame. This recent case with the boy who went to school & then was found to be positive. Easy to blame him & his family but that doesn't help. Instead looking at what led to him going to school they realise the authorities need to be really clear & consistent with messages particularly with people who don't speak English well. This will hopefully stop this situation recurring with anyone else.
