Every now and then, members share a beautiful Pearl of Wisdom. How often do you think to yourself; "OMG that's great! I wish everyone could see this." Presenting someone with a bunch of flowers is a generous way of acknowledging their insightful words. I hope this thread stays active through members giving out praise regularly to people they feel deserving, and therefore keep generosity of spirit alive within the pages of BeyondBlue Forum. My bunch of Red Roses (my choice) goes to Wishful for the following sentence; 'Personally, I see no reason to be praised in me, but I'm learning that seeing through the eyes of others can be more accurate!!' I so hear you Wishful. Just beautiful... Try to keep your leading comments short to focus on 'their' words. Choose specific flowers (or a gift if you like) to present to them. Sign off respectfully and sincerely. I hope this takes off... Spreading the love...Sara

There’s a lot of expectations about how a ‘typical’ adult life should look. Career, partner, children, possessions... My life doesn’t look like this, but it doesn’t make it any less valid. Living with mental illness, or any chronic condition, can make it hard to meet these goals, so we often need to set our own instead. And these goals are just as important as other more ‘traditional’ life goals. Sometimes more so, because they can be so hard fought for. The way we live our lives is valid. I want to say that I always believe this strongly, but I’m human and sometimes I fall into the trap of comparing myself to others. I start to feel doubt about my worthiness and become fearful of sharing my own truths. Which is a bit sad because actually I think my life is a pretty interesting story to tell. At those times I let myself sit with the uncomfortable feelings, breathe and not fight against the thoughts, till they pass and I find my feet again. Our stories matter. Our goals matter. Our lives are valid. What is a goal you’re working towards that brings meaning to your life? They can be big or small - what’s important is that they matter to you.

I'm sorry if this isn't the right forum to post in, but I didn't know where else to put this, this is the only mental health website I know of and I know this isn't about anxiety or depression so if this isn't the right place please tell me. Now that that's out of the way; I have Aspergers and I have trouble knowing how to receive gifts. Last year I got gifts I didn't want and I very blankly said that I didn't like it and my mum got so angry at me, it felt horrible because I couldn't understand really what I did wrong. That's why I went on this forum to receive advice on how to react to gifts so I don't get yelled at again. Any advice on how to at least pretend to be happy to receive gifts that I don't want or just how to avoid being nervous on when and how to say thank you for gifts and just social things that I cant understand would be much appreciated

This thread has been inspired by Anny! Thanks for your encouragement. Each day I am going to try to write down "My Daily Happiness Experience" If any of you would like to add your own happy experiences, past or present or any comments, then please do so. My Daily Happiness Experience today was putting on the sprinkler just for the native birds and then listening to their joyful song and chirping as they refreshed themselves. Happiness is knowing that no matter how hot and flustered I may be feeling, there is always an escape. I just have to look for it and make the most of the opportunities that come my way. Hi Guys! I'm a 29 year old male currently in recovery from a long-term eating disorder, studying counselling. I've been thinking for a long while that It would be an amazing resource for recovery to have a group, much like an A.A meeting, that convenes every week, or month or so. A space for sharing and for staying committed to recovery and receiving support in the process. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that thinks this might be a good idea also? Or would consider participating in something like this? It would be great to get a sense of if people might be interested. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Dear fellow Beyond Blue Members, I have received a bunch of help from here and wanted to pass a bit of holiday spirit to our fellow members. I can understand that this time is not always an enjoyable time especially when people may feel alone in the world but I am hoping my words are as sincere as possible and honest. There will always be people that care for you, there will always be people out there that have your well being in their hearts. I couldn't begin to understand the hidden difficulties that people courageously manage to get through an often scary and anxious world. Today, yesterday or tomorrow may not be a great day but I am sure things will always get better. Happy holidays and Merry Christmas to all you very amazingly brave people.

I have suffered from restless legs syndrome for about 15 years and was taking medication daily which worked most of the time. About 4 months ago I changed to a whole food plant based diet (no oil, no sugar, no animal products) because I had some cardiovascular issues. The results have been much better than I expected. A side effect of my new diet has been the disappearance of my restless legs syndrome problem!
