Recently revealed my domestic issues to my school

Hey guys,
This might be triggering and I'm not really sure if a warning is necessary but there you go-

Anyways,
I have a specialist (for mental health) and I've been talking to him about my domestic issues.
Things for me are rough at home. I try to avoid my house and stay quiet in my home.

It was only today that it was brought to my attention my father's treatment of me is abusive.

This is a major shock to me.
I guess I kind of new, maybe I was in denial, but heck it still scared me.
I'm pretty traumatized and dealing with a lot of stress and depression so this was kind of the cherry on the cake-

Does anyone know how to deal with this kind of thing?
Like recovery of learning your parent is abusive, how to deal with living with an abusive parent, etc.

I appreciate any help at all.
Thank you so much.

I myself have been through DV. Not a safe environment at all. Can’t be yourself. Stepping on eggshells everyday. My father also. About 3 years ago I stopped seeing him for good. Do you have any other family members that feel the same? I am here for you as know what you’re going through. If you are scared contact a DV hotline or 000.

Hi Izuku,

I can understand how shocking this realisation is for you.  It must be hard to be made aware of this and potentially not recognising how much of an impact your father's behaviour has had on you, until now.  Is there any possibility of you father sitting in on one of your sessions with your Mental Health Specialist to discuss supports and education for him?  Would this be a safe option?  This would be an important question to discuss with your Mental Health Specialist to ensure that your safety.

If you would like to talk these feelings through before your next session with your specialist, we recommend that you get in contact with the Beyond Blue Support Service. They are available 24/7 by phone on 1300 22 4636 or on Webchat 1pm-12am AEST on our website: www.beyondblue.org.au/getsupport.  You can also call Kids Helpline on 1800 551 800 and also reach out on their online chat via https://kidshelpline.com.au/.  They are also available 24/7.

We hope you can find some comfort here on the forums and hope to see you back again whenever you would like to connect.

Hello Izuku,

I'm sorry to hear that you have been dealing with an abusive parent, and I can understand how difficult it can be right now to try and process that.

As Mudcakes and Sophie_M mentioned, it would be good to make sure you have some professional help of some sort, even if just to take that pressure off of working out what to do. I had a similar experience with my mother where she didn't even realise how emotionally abusive she could be, and it took a joint session with a psychologist to make some behaviours stop.

Is there someone you could speak to already, or how do you feel about seeking some outside support?

Hi Izuku!, and Mudcakes.

I just wanted to say I'm very very sorry to hear that you're both experiencing DV, nobody deserves it.

As Mudcakes said, please call 000, or contact a DV helpline, 1800RESPECT is one of them, they have a webchat.

You can also contact Blue Knot, this is a website for people with PTSD.

Some other ones are Suicide Call Back Service, Lifeline, eHeadspace, Kids Helpline.

I hope you and Mudcakes are safe, we're all thinking of you both. I'm so sorry you're both dealing with these horrible things.

Sorry to ask but has your father been physically violent towards you? 💜Abusive can mean alot of different things. Hope you feel safe at home. You matter💖
