'Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD; also known as complex trauma disorder) is a psychological disorder thought to occur as a result of repetitive, prolonged trauma involving sustained abuse or abandonment by a caregiver or other interpersonal relationships with an uneven power dynamic.' Wikipedia description..
I think this pretty much sums it up yeah?
I wish I could underline; '..relationships with an uneven power dynamic'. In my own case, C-PTSD was triggered by bullying in my workplace from 2008 until 2014. I developed symptoms such as Anxiety/Panic that grew in severity until a tragic breakdown in 2014. I was forced to medically retire.
Although my history of multiple trauma's and childhood abuse caused specific responses in me from an early age, I thought I was normal and everyone was the same. In fact, a lot of people in my inner circle were.
Decades later, I find out those friends/family members/acquaintances had gone thru their own traumatic situations. So why wouldn't I feel normal around them?
Today, as opposed to the 70's/80's (my adolescence/young adulthood) where abuse wasn't discussed, people have resources to out their pain and confusion in spaces like BB forum or with psychologists, social workers, medico's, psychiatrists and even friends/family.
Treatment has become the 'norm' instead of going it alone which is what many of us here had to do until society caught up with this 'pandemic' (IMO) of psychological disorders.
So, why create a thread dedicated to C-PTSD? Well, stigma and misconception around it's still rife in our society, and people suffering with this horrible disorder and not realising it is a constant.
Your views are absolutely welcome! We really do need to talk about it as consequences of C-PTSD and the benefits of therapy are worthy and an important part of recovery.
Newcomers and current members alike are encouraged to post; old, young, male or female.
Let's pick each other's brain and see where it leads...

Hi and welcome Banjo;
Sorry I missed your post while I was writing my last entry. We must've been posting at the same time.
I'm glad you're getting something out of this thread/forum. It's such an important topic so thanks for your story. There are so many of them on here that differ yet, are the same. Rage is one symptom many experience but few know how to understand or deal with it.
It sounds like you had a great psych; they can be few and far between. Would love to hear more re your recovery or anything you'd like to contribute.
It's after 1am so I might have to leave things here...sorry. Will be back tomorrow to check in so please, read or write as you might. Looking forward to more...
Kind thoughts;

Hi all and welcome to our newest members
i was just talking on another thread about a service for trauma in general and it might help someone here too.
Its called 'Victims of Crime' they offer up to 22 free counselling sessions and also offer compensation if that is something your interested in as well. you can pick your own counsellor or have one assigned to you. the forms can be overwhelming however most details can be skimmed over for example there is a section that says what sort of trauma- you only have to say 'domestic Violence' or the likes, it also has a section if you choose to report your abuser (so has a section for names etc) however you dont have to fill that in either.
Just thougtht id meantion that here in case it helps someone. you can easily find it by typing into google 'Victims of crime counselling services'
also this has nothing to do with medicare so you dont need refferrals or mental health care plans, you can self refer by the online application found on the website.

Hi Daisy and welcome to the forum;
Complex ptsd is different yes, but it's symptoms that need to be focused on in the beginning so our minds can be well enough to cope with therapy and recovery.
Major depression's obviously your treating Dr's priority atm, so please be patient.
In my experience and on this thread, cptsd is more about dealing with triggers, panic, anxiety, depressive moods and dissociation. Major depression is a chemical issue for your psychiatrist.
Once your medication's working and giving you respite, a ptsd program might suit. A more personal approach can be developed later on. Please, try not to get too wrapped up with labels ok. One step at a time..
I hope this helps Daisy and your hospital stay turns out for the best. I look forward to hearing from you again.
Kind thoughts;

Hi Nancy and welcome to our caring community;
I invite you to read thru this thread from the beginning at your own pace. If you have questions afterwards, we'll endeavour to answer them. Asking us how we've coped is a really broad question as there are so many areas and symptoms we could discuss.
Like you, we've suffered most of or all of our adult lives from trauma responses, so pinpointing specific topics would be an easier way to approach things.
So, did today change your life? My diagnosis did; only 4 yrs ago. (I'm 58!) I finally realised I actually suffered with an identifiable MH condition and wasn't broken, out of control and suicidal for no reason.
If you want to disclose a little of your story here, that'd be good. It can be as specific or generalised as you want, it's up to you. Not just to let the crap out and talk with us, but for others to see how brave you are and step up to share their own story too.
Anyway, this thread's more about helping each other cope with cptsd as a complementary activity to therapy and treatment. The forum's an amazing place to connect with other sufferers, learn about your disorder, swap stories or use as a journal. It's up to you...
Most of all though, know we're listening and caring. We know what it feels like and went thru it alone at first just as you have. I'm in recovery now so I hope I can answer your questions to help you.
One day at a time hun...
Looking forward to hearing from you...
