Any advice?

I’m a 14 yr old currently struggling through depression. Got my antidepressants doubled up by my psychiatrist, and feeling more tired and depressed lately. I am already aware that after increasing the dose, feeling worse is one of the symptoms. I’m really struggling and getting verbally abused, and experiencing domestic violence. I feel like I’m being tortured, experiencing excruciating pain (mentally and physically) and feel like I’ve been a bit traumatised from it. All I want is people to understand and be nice to me, but I’m not really getting that. I’m being put down a lot and occasionally having suicidal thoughts. Im also scared if my parents start to develop mental health issues because they are hitting rock bottom and are seeming to not cope. I really love my parents, and they love me and support me. They are the ones that seemed professional help and attention for me. Although when they are angry and stressed, they put it on me at times, which worsens my depression.

Idk. have any tips or statements???

Hi Random person,

Welcome to the forums, we are so glad you decided to join us here. We know it can be hard to write the first post, but you've shown so much strength in reaching out here today. We're so sorry to hear what you're going through right now. Please know that you are strong and valuable, and you don't have to do this alone. You've come to a safe space to talk through these thoughts and feelings, and our community is here to offer you as much support, advice and conversation as you need. We'd really recommend getting in touch with the friendly counsellors at  Kids Help Line to talk through these feelings and experiences. They are a confidential and anonymous, telephone and online counselling service specifically for young people aged 25 and under. We’d also welcome you to reach out to our Support Service, which is available 24/7 by phone on 1300 22 4636 or on Webchat 3pm-12am AEST on our website: www.beyondblue.org.au/getsupport.

However, if you do not feel safe, or find yourself in a situation where you become in immediate danger, this is an emergency and you should call 000 (triple zero) straightaway.

We hope that you keep checking back in and let us know how you are going when you feel up to it. You're not alone here.

Hi Random person

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through so much pain and trauma, I firstly want to echo what Sophie_M has said to you and that is if you are not feeling safe, at anytime, please call 000 and have either the police or an ambulance come to you, your safety is so very important and they will support you.

Medication is so very tricky and it does take time to get it right, this does come with ups and downs and it can be a frustrating journey, however I am so pleased to hear that you are getting the medical support that you need and that your parents are providing this for you and love and care for you, this is so fantastic to hear. Maybe keeping a log of how you are feeling each day can help with the medication and getting the dose right for you, so when you do see your doctor next you can show him or her and talk about how your feelings and emotions are going in between your appointments.

I wanted to ask you about the verbal abuse and the domestic violence that you mentioned, only if you feel you want to talk about that some more as I am worried about your safety and that at 14 you may feel like you don't have many options so you have to "live with it". You do not have to stay anywhere where you are not safe and I just wanted to make sure once again, that you are ok. I am so happy to hear that you are loved and supported by your parents and that you love them also, perhaps there is a way that you can let them know that when they are angry and they are worried and have a lot to deal with when they take it out on you it really effects you. Is this something you can talk to your parents about or maybe even write them a note to make them aware of how it is making you feel?

It is a strange time at the moment and people are doing things that they don't "normally" have to do and be away from family and friends and maybe work from home and have a whole new lot of pressures on them, it is hard to see what the future looks like and I hope that your parents too can reach out for some support if they are finding the current situation difficult to manage.

I am so very proud you have come to get some support and comfort here and I hope to chat some more to you, if you want to that is.

You matter so much and we are here for you Random person, we care.

Hugs to you

Sarah
