Dear Barry~
Ta for coming back. I've not been on anti psychotics, so have no idea what it's like. I'd imagine a bit of a time to settle down - everything else seems to.
By the way I think from what you said in your last post I may have been in the area a few times, a long drive there and wet - well when I was there anyway.
I think I got more in English - but I'm counting the time I was in France as a schoolboy. English was my best subject there - surprise:) I was pretty ordinary at everything else though, not enough French to understand a lot, at least not to start with.
That's where I got the name Croix. The other kids used to call me that.
I've a friend that makes guitars, but he uses a hardwood. He makes electric ones. Do you make electric or acoustic?
From what he says the hard part for him is joining the fret-board to the body and to the neck. Trying to keep it all dead straight and not having the fret-board bow up over time.
My hat's off to you either way, its tricky and takes patience. The pens and such, I guess you must use a lathe.
I did see a bloke who tried to turn a fresh bit of Huon Pine - ended up with soggy flakes everywhere. I'd no idea there could be so much water in it.
Paul said you were in the Sydney-Hobart. A Huon pine boat, or something faster?
Can't say I'm sorry for your Grandad, passed away like that. Sort of way I'd like.
As for your dad being the best in his craft. That's something very special. I came top of my Trained Constables' course, so was it-and-a-bit for a while - soon got it knocked out of me though:)
It sounds like you and all your family have been very practical. A good way to be. I hate the modern attitude of buy it, use it, throw it away. I prefer to fix things and keep using them.
My shed is full of junk in case I just need a ..whatever... to fix something.
Hope the meds kick in and you feel more awake. Pat for the dog.

Dog patted, the yacht i did the Sydney to Hobart on was Grant Warrington's first Wild Thing, we name it Wild One after it being the first, it was a 47 foot Inglis with hydraulic centreboard that took it from 7 foot to 11 foot draught. It was made in Melbourne and was triple diagonal planked cedar, which was strong and transferred the power well from the sails into force. It was 1998, 5 lost RIP.
You had to mention rain and it just started, but it's been lovely here in QT.
The neds make me real drowsy and i just collapse sometimes.

Hi Barry,
I know what you mean about the anti psychotic pills making you feel so sleepy and wanting to sleep. I'm on some at the moment.
Next time you see your Dr can you ask about a smaller dose, might still assist you but not make you so tired. Occasionally I have asked regarding the time of day to take the medication as well. If these pills make you tired, can you take them in the evening?
I know they can still make you drowsy in the day time. A chat to your Dr. might help.
I admire your crafting skills. Must be very satisfying to hold a completed guitar in your hands!

Hi Barry
I am impressed you are so skilled and clever to make electric bass guitars. That must be so satisfying. Did you teach yourself or did you have lessons. Would there be many people in Australia who make them? I am thinking it would be quite unusual.
Do you play guitar s well? I remember a great concert with ol 55 at uni in the late 70s- they were so great. Now I feel my age!!
I hope you are feeling less sleepy.
Cheers

Dear Barry~
Well, I won't mention the r**n this time:)
I hope the new meds have settled down and you're able to feel more awake now.
Had the NBN (No Broadband Now) playing up for around 4 days. It would come up, I'd get started on something, then down it would go again. In a lot of ways it would have been better if it just stayed off til fixed.
At least they did not argue about my equipment being faulty this time, just said yes it's down , don't know for how long - a lot of help there.
I had a chat with my friend that makes electric guitars and was amazed at how much detail there was. He said he got into it because the neck broke off where it joined the body on his and he had to try to fix it - one thing led to another and now he makes all sorts, including bass - 4 and 6 string.
Can you tell me a little more about how you make yours and if you remember how you got started? I had no idea there were so many ways of joining the neck to the body, let alone everything else.
As for triple diagonal planking, that must have taken real skill. For me just getting one layer of planks to fit together is difficult enough (did the back of some bookcases and some things like outside decking and dados on the inside walls)
Like Quirkywords and Paul I'd be interested in knowing if you play yourself - and the sort of music you go for. I had a listen to Ol'55 on YouTube, had not heard them before. Particularly liked Stay While The Night Is Young
Then I realized that one of my favorites Tom Waits had a title Ol'55 too -but that was about a car.
Hows things otherwise with you? Can you get out at all for a walk with the dog? Even though I have to go slow I enjoy it. Go to the end of the street and back when I can -t he dog would go for miles if it could - small and very strong with a mind of her own. Determined.
Hope things are at least middling ok for you

Hey Barry
I just read Croix's post which is a good one.....especially about the NBN.....'No Broadband Now'
When you are up to it can you let us know what instrument you can play/and or what is your favourite?
Barry you used to be a wizz bang technician for Telecom.....your thoughts on the current NBN debacle would be appreciated from your point of view especially considering your background
I hope you are doing reasonably okay Barry
my best for you. Paul
