The fishing rod has made its appearance

Jackson

Babies are very sensitive to noise and their ears notice the change in air pressure, flights can be hard on them and on parents.

Have a relaxing Christmas

Quirky

Yeah, tough decision deciding to fly or drive, 11 hours regardless of stops is just too long for a baby that little to be in the car for, but the plane obviously wasn’t very nice either. Will try again on the way home and hope it’s a bit better.

Today was emotionally exhausting.

Retreated to the bedroom for some space, just me, thought I was able to sneak away from the craziness, had a 5 year old follow me, so that didn’t last long. Told 5 year old to leave because I’m “having a nap”, child then announced to the whole of lounge room/dining room of people that I was having a nap, “with his clothes on even shoes”.Yeah, thanks for that announcement. Mum caught up with me, we went for a walk around the block. Both Mum and I need time as just us at Christmas, even if it’s just 10 minutes.

Cousins GF rocked up this morning with ingredients to make the dessert I make every year in honour of my brother. It’s been this way every year since we haven’t had him for Christmas. I said, oh I bought all the stuff to make that, I’ll do it, her response “no I’ll make it, I bought it all” “yeah, I usually do it every year thats all” “oh well maybe not this year then i’ll make it” “umm nah this is just a thing I do sorry, I mean we can make two if you wanted do one each” “what’s the big deal?”

I just dropped it.

Someone clearly hadn’t worded her up on that, my cousin can be a bit of a jerk so doesn’t surprise me that maybe he didn’t say anything when she was buying all the stuff.

When dessert time came I just went about my business and nobody said anything, someone had been quietly told I think.

In lighter news, this morning W rolled further than he has before. It has started. Our big 5 month old was found licking the presents under the Christmas tree this morning after being put on the carpet, rolled himself there. He has been doing it a little bit but not like that, we werent expecting that for a little longer, so wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t see it again for a little bit, or maybe not.

He was definitely lapping up the attention at the table today, star of the show and proud of it that kid is.

So tired now, all of us.

Hi Jackson,

Regarding the plane trip home, I am wondering if you or H have Googled for possible ideas that might make it easier for W and yourselves regarding the flight.

I have heard of people making sure the child has been fed so they are sleepy and to suck on a dummy as apparently that might help with the air pressure in the ears. (so I heard...not sure on the truth of it).

Asking at the chemist might help as well. They may be able to suggest something, not necessarily a drug.

Don't you just love the openness and truth of children telling stuff as it is.

Cheers to you from Dools

Thanks Dools, we’ll try a few things when the plane trip does happen, supposed to be today but stuck in Adelaide at the moment with sick bubba

We made it home!! And the flight was less painful than the first one.
We can finally start out family time at home for the next week.

Hi Jackson,

Hope W is feeling a lot better. Good thing the flight went okay.

Also hope you enjoy your time home together.

Happy New Year to you all.

Cheers from Dools

Thanks Dools, poor little thing, something we have to keep on top of but he’s ok.

Flight was ok, he didn’t love it but it was a bit better than before.

We’ve had a really nice break at home, not many visitors just doing what we please, enjoying the nice weather. Mum and Dad did come down yesterday for lunch though, we sat out on the deck, perfect weather for it.

But lingering in my head through all that is these fires, it’s awful but it’s also so hard to get away from online and or on the TV, it’s overwhelming. I’m doing some things to help, but I’m also switching off social media a fair bit because it’s too much.
