Chronic tension headache diagnosis and long term management

Lost_Girl

Hi I suffer from chronic pain. I have a bone shard impacting a nerve root at c8 being treated with cortisone. I have pain at c5 and c6 that is manageable without anything. However I have a constant headache and pressure in my ears that I have had for pretty much every waking moment for the last 7 months. As a result I have become depressed and I have insomnia.

After a trip to a neurologist I have been advised to cease sleeping medication and strong pain killers. I am now only on antidepressants.

A visit to my psychologist today has alerted me that depression does not cause headaches.

Has anyone been treated for chronic pain with ONLY antidepressants and did it work?

I havr a referral now to a psychiatrist to check but it not until May. While I see if I can find something earlier I sm keen to hear if this has worked for anyone.

Thanks,

Carol

Hi Matt,

Nice to meet you directly, thanks so much for dropping by.

I have been really enjoying your banter with Kanga and others on the Thread Killer and the Cafe, thank you!

It is a great talent to make people laugh, especially when I don't feel much like even smiling.

I have been trying to find my sense of humour, I am sure I left it around here somewhere. I'll go check my pockets and maybe reach down the side of the couch, you never know what you may find down there 😉

Looking forward to chatting some more.

Cheers, Carol

Hi Carol,

I always find things when I'm not looking. When I'm looking I can never find anything! This frustrates the beegbees out of me. So now I walk around with my eye's closed. This is also turning out to be frustrating. I wounder if I invented special patronizing filtered sun glasses would that help you?

I'm keen for a laugh anytime. 😂

Chat soon

Peace

Matt.

Yes Oh Carol, the movie is daytime...and I'd love to be used as a tick on your rehab task list...albeit a cyber one! I'd love to see how you explain that one away to your Dr/psych.rehab person who made up the list!

"Oh thats just a cyber mate of mine who lives in a galaxy far far away - her name's Moonstruck, she loves the Full Moon you see, drop her a line, she'll verify that we went to see Lion. Movieland was at the top of the Faraway Tree at the time".

Hi Carol,

Love your positivity, hopefully it's contagious. Storm is still a baby@ 5 months , sounds like you are doing everything right. Monty was 18 months old when I got him so I missed out of the puppy stage:(, but he is a big baby. The hunting instinct is pretty strong in the breed. Now he has a taste for it im doing my best to protect the local possum population. Like Yu I haven't a strong stomache.

with regards to excercise I need 1.5 hours most days if not more and I'm still tense and need my meds to try and get sleep.Like you a lots changed. What was once easy is now hard and I'm grateful for small mercies. I see my psych for the first time in 6 months in a few days and a tad nervous.

im rapt that you have turned the corner. You have been there in my darkest moments, always have a positive spin on things, no matter what adversity we face.

All good in my neck of the woods, doing my best to see it lasts

hugs Len xox

Hey Len,

I am sorry to hear things have become tough again for you. It sounds like your psych visit is timely. If you start feeling nervous just picture all us BB friends sitting beside you. Easy way to fill up a room! I will be there with you in spirit.

Isn't it amazing that sleep can cause so much trouble. When I was young I never wanted to go to sleep. As a teen I never wanted to get up. How easy it was to get to sleep back then.

If you haven't already, look up sleep hygeine, there are some tips that may help. There is also a sleep thread here in BB.

Leaving a big hug here for you xx

Hahaha, you made me laugh.

Well hubby booked the car in for a service so I am carless. I might try and see if I can catch a bus down to the movies. I haven't caught a bus in years. I think I shall try. The idea makes me nervous and it is about time to conquer some fears hey?!

What better way to spend the day then at the top of my favourite tree with a favourite friend.

All I have to write on my form is the date. As long as we catch up and chat about the movie after I think it ticks it's purpose 😉 The intent is to get me out of the house and being social. I got my hair done today and my hairdresser made up for enough "social" to last 6 months. I haven't had to talk so much in a long time.

Hugs xx

Hey Matt,

How about we both wear Douglas Adam's Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses. They "have been specially designed to help people develop a relaxed attitude to danger. At the first hint of trouble, they turn totally black and thus prevent you from seeing anything that might alarm you."

I think that might come in handy!

Alternatively, you can hide at the top of the Faraway Tree with Moon and I.

Hi Carol,

I liked my special glasses better. The filter was sincere. I have come this far now. I think hiding up a tree is not an option worth the effort.

Peace and equality

Matt.

Hi Matt,

My apologies, I feel my jest was not delivered as I intended. I hope I haven't caused any offense.
