Advice for Seeking Professional Help (Trigger Warning- Sexual Abuse, Self-Harm, and Suicidal Feelings)

Hey guys,

My life at the moment is really complicated, so I'll keep it brief:

  • My parents are extremely strict- they don't let me do anything, when my boyfriend (who was also my best friend) broke up with me, they didn't know
  • I was touched inappropriately last year by someone who I had known for years (not a family member, a peer)
  • I suffered from depression(?) after the breakup for about 5 or so months (I don't have a diagnosis because my parents didn't know)
  • I have stopped now, but I had been self-harming for around 2-3 of those months
  • A couple of weeks ago, the depression and anxiety was so bad that I wanted to kill myself
  • I am always anxious- I have a constant feeling of dread in my stomach
  • I have panic attacks frequently that sometimes are for no reason- these involves sweating, shaking, hyperventilating and crying
  • I really hate germs and am kind of obsessed with washing my hair and sanitising my hands
  • A lot of my 'friends' judge me and some of them bitch behind my back
  • I find that my anxiety is not at the front of my mind when I dance or when I am on this forum helping others
  • My ex and I are friends again, but some weeks he ghosts me and flirts with random girls, and some weeks he acts like my boyfriend again
  • I have only recently 'come out' to my parents about being anxious all the time
  • I am going to see the school counsellor on Monday
  • My parents are going to take me to a GP and get a referral to see a psychologist

I would like some advice on how to talk to a counsellor/psychologist and some general info about confidentiality and stuff like that.

Thanks guys xx

Hi starts,

I'm okay... however i had a panic attack yesterday. In front of best friends new gf. Great.

Anyway I've been okay apart from that, trying to distract myself from everything ha ha.

I have an appt. with my new psych on the 5th June (Im so psyched! Geddit? lol :P)

Thanks for the concern 🙂

How have you been?

x Chlo

Hi Chloe

im glad your doing ok besides the panic attack yesterday. im sure in time youll be able to control those too. remember as soon as you start to get anxios, try your breathing techniques so it doesnt get out of hand.

the 5th of june is quite a while away yet but keep praciticing the strategies you know and ask for help when you need it. lol yes i do get it

hows school and dance been going?

Hey Chloe,

'm sure you have enough on your mind already and I'm sorry to add more stress or to anyone who reads this but I have anxiety! I don't know how to control it, today in volleyball all I could think about was failing and letting my team mates down. Can someone help me please?

Thanks

Amy xx

Hi Amy

Its nice to meet you. You are sounding anxious atm. Have you tried guided breathing before or meditation at all?

I suggest doing some breathing now and then something else to help you relax like a hot shower then a cup of tea (no coffee) and a movie. Do you think that could help you?

Also do you have a thread id be happy to have a look and help you out too.

Hi all,

Starts yes i will keep using my strategies until that appt. School has been meh as per usual, got NAPLAN tomorrow 😞 and wednesday 😞 and thursday 😞
Dance has been good, competed on Friday in one of the biggest comps in my city, came highly commended against kids who dance 20hrs a week when i only do 12hrs a week. Also competed in group comps we came 2nd and 3rd 🙂

Amy hi again. No no no you are not adding to my stress levels, dont stress yourself about that hun. Helping people reduces stress so please feel free to post on my thread or your own if you have one. Breathing control really helps, the app ReachOut Breathe really helps it measures your heart rate and controls your breathing. Its free too 😛
Hope youre doing okay today x

Lici hello 🙂 just came off your thread lol. Saturday was a good day however my mums car broke down in another city lol, had to come home from the dance comp in a friends car haha! My phone is also broken 😞 might be getting a new one 😮 but might be able to fix current one fingers crossed.

Hello Chloe,

Congratulations on you dancing achievements, well done..

Good luck with your Naplan test, although Ive not done them, my grandchildren have, and they have said that it was unusual but interesting to do...I wish you good luck and peace while your doing them...Don't forget to breath deeply .

Morning Chloe 🤗

Congrats on your dancing results and good luck for NAPLAN! (Hehe my phone wanted to change that to napalm 😂) sorry to hear about your mum's car and your phone! Hopefully you get your phone fixed or get a new one soon!

Don't put too much pressure on yourself with the tests. Naplan wasn't even around when I was in school I don't think, and if it was then it was so important that I can't remember 😉. They're just to see where students are at with their literacy & numeracy etc if I remember right so they're not like your year 12 exams where they matter for uni etc. From what I've seen from your posts, you're extremely literate and I'm sure your numeracy skills are great too, so you'll ace it!

Hugs
