Advice for Seeking Professional Help (Trigger Warning- Sexual Abuse, Self-Harm, and Suicidal Feelings)

Hey guys,

My life at the moment is really complicated, so I'll keep it brief:

  • My parents are extremely strict- they don't let me do anything, when my boyfriend (who was also my best friend) broke up with me, they didn't know
  • I was touched inappropriately last year by someone who I had known for years (not a family member, a peer)
  • I suffered from depression(?) after the breakup for about 5 or so months (I don't have a diagnosis because my parents didn't know)
  • I have stopped now, but I had been self-harming for around 2-3 of those months
  • A couple of weeks ago, the depression and anxiety was so bad that I wanted to kill myself
  • I am always anxious- I have a constant feeling of dread in my stomach
  • I have panic attacks frequently that sometimes are for no reason- these involves sweating, shaking, hyperventilating and crying
  • I really hate germs and am kind of obsessed with washing my hair and sanitising my hands
  • A lot of my 'friends' judge me and some of them bitch behind my back
  • I find that my anxiety is not at the front of my mind when I dance or when I am on this forum helping others
  • My ex and I are friends again, but some weeks he ghosts me and flirts with random girls, and some weeks he acts like my boyfriend again
  • I have only recently 'come out' to my parents about being anxious all the time
  • I am going to see the school counsellor on Monday
  • My parents are going to take me to a GP and get a referral to see a psychologist

I would like some advice on how to talk to a counsellor/psychologist and some general info about confidentiality and stuff like that.

Thanks guys xx

Hello everyone,

so my appointment was good. There was no reason to be nervous. Basically I had to sign some forms about confidentiality, then I went on one the iPads there and completed a survey which asked questions about home and school and sexuality and had something like the K10 checklist I think it actually might have been.

then I saw the youth clinician for about an hour and 25 minutes. We talked about family, school, friends, romantic relationships, sexuality, gender, moods, anxiety, depression, self harm, suicide, sexual abuse, domestic violence, anger, hallucinations etc. she basically asked loads of questions about all of those topics. She typed notes on her computer to discuss with psychs at a meeting and decide who i should see on a regular basis. At the end she said she will ring me in a few days about next appointments and who I'll see, and she said that I'll be seeing a psychologist there probably, she said they seemed like the best fit for me.

Overall was very pleased, she was very nice and the environment there was very comfortable.

Am kind of looking forward to next appointment 🙂

Thanks for all your support everyone ❤️

Oh hun I am so glad that you felt comfortable today and that you’re looking forward to your next appointment. Take it easy though this afternoon as you may find you suddenly feel tired. I know it can happen for me sometimes after an appointment- that you’re on a bit of a high and then it’s almost like a switch flicks and you’re tired. It may not happen to you Chloe but just something to be aware of. Well done for going and seeking some support. I’m proud of you x

thats awesome Chloe well done!

Hey James! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

i don't have my next appointment yet, the Youth Clinician i saw will call me in the next couple of days to let me know (a) who i will be seeing (b) what my 'treatment plan' (so to speak) will involve and then we will make an appointment for next time.

Thanks again, will be posting my results after Wednesday's comp (that is if i place lol).
