Hey guys,
My life at the moment is really complicated, so I'll keep it brief:
- My parents are extremely strict- they don't let me do anything, when my boyfriend (who was also my best friend) broke up with me, they didn't know
- I was touched inappropriately last year by someone who I had known for years (not a family member, a peer)
- I suffered from depression(?) after the breakup for about 5 or so months (I don't have a diagnosis because my parents didn't know)
- I have stopped now, but I had been self-harming for around 2-3 of those months
- A couple of weeks ago, the depression and anxiety was so bad that I wanted to kill myself
- I am always anxious- I have a constant feeling of dread in my stomach
- I have panic attacks frequently that sometimes are for no reason- these involves sweating, shaking, hyperventilating and crying
- I really hate germs and am kind of obsessed with washing my hair and sanitising my hands
- A lot of my 'friends' judge me and some of them bitch behind my back
- I find that my anxiety is not at the front of my mind when I dance or when I am on this forum helping others
- My ex and I are friends again, but some weeks he ghosts me and flirts with random girls, and some weeks he acts like my boyfriend again
- I have only recently 'come out' to my parents about being anxious all the time
- I am going to see the school counsellor on Monday
- My parents are going to take me to a GP and get a referral to see a psychologist
I would like some advice on how to talk to a counsellor/psychologist and some general info about confidentiality and stuff like that.
Thanks guys xx

Chloe,
Funny how things turn out and how we perceive things. You mentioned that your friend told a group of people about you. You don't know how they might react to such news. I guess I have been lucky in that has not happened to me but I will go onto the next statement you made now that the truth is out. There are a few people I have told about my situation. Some know more, others less. One person I spoke to said he was honoured that he could be a support person for me. Another rang me yesterday to check in and see if I was ok. And when I told another student at uni he was thankful for the conversation as he was able to unload some things. We find out we are not alone and there are people who genuinely care.
People that have not gone through what you are going through won't fully understand. After all you look normal, so there cannot be any problems. But they do not see what is in the mind.
And from my own perspective, I know that when I get through this I will be stronger. Not compared to now, but stronger than before this all started. I (or you) have new skills which you can help or share with others as the need arises. You have new listening skills to recognise if someone is not ok. You develop empathy and compassion.
You are much stronger than you realise. Living peace to you.

Hi smallwolf,
Firstly thank you for the encouragement. Made me feel much better 🙂
I think that the people my best friend told all care, they all texted me or rung me after to see if i was okay. I trust that they won't tell anyone, last thing I need is my parents finding out.
You're right, they can't actually see that there is something wrong. I look like a normal teenage girl. I reckon it would be so much easier if we could actually see what was going on in the mind.
I am going to be open with people now. I'm not going to full on tell everyone everything, but I'm going to no longer say 'I'm fine' if someone asks me if im okay. Because I'm not. Im done lying to people.
I am stronger than I realise. So are you. And everyone else on the forums 🙂
Thanks guys and have a great day.
Chloe 🙂

Hi Tams20,
Sorry, only just saw your post. Thank you, your words mean a lot to me!
I am still little lol. I don't think I've actually said how old I am on here, as I think some people wouldn't take me seriously if they knew how old I am.I so spend a lot of time on here... I like the people here and i love to help!
I am in the top classes for all subjects and am very aware of things that go on around me. Am very observant and try to be as non-judgmental as possible.
Thanks for the reply 🙂

Congrats on placing second, thats amazing!
I read that youre going to be more open with people about how you’re feeling. This made me smile. It’s so important not to bottle things up. That’s what has brought me back to this forum after a bit of a break. I realised I needed support. So I’ve reached out to family and friends and on here (although my post hasn’t come up yet lol) and what’s that saying “a problem shared is a problem halved”. Keep chatting with us and to those around you. You’ve got this Chloe!
