I ask out of interest, learning & gathering info for my purposes which are to get on top of Bipolar (BP)
Flog the demons & when I get there thinking to public speak (Paid hopefully) & would help many.
A goal I HAVE to reach.
Our depression beyond eventually goes when we've recovered fortunately.
Questions:
Does it lift at times during depression?
Do you find you get depressed when tired?
(I've spoken to a few over the yrs with/out M.Illness or ? undiagnosed, but most have said no. I always have but may have been the BP.)
A Psychiatrist said the depression causes tiredness which I get why but...
I'm not so sure, I think other way round too but might be wrong, open to that

Hello demonblaster
Tiredness always sets off my depression. Initially they feel the same but after a few days it is definitely depression more than tiredness. If I avoid getting over tired my mood stays better.

Yeah same about avoiding getting overtired. Very difficult to get much sleep in BP times but "normal" 🙂 times I can hack, but then pretty sure I'm getting stronger to BP lows, so could be that dunno yet

Interesting post and thankyou
Depression can be a lifelong illness. The severity of this awful illness can be reduced by super regular therapy so we can have a reasonable quality of life
Its no different to a serious physiological illness like diabetes or heart disease. 'Happy thoughts' wont really make much of a dent in clinical depression. Therapy and if recommended meds will make a huge difference.

Do/have you I'm never sure & learning here to ask things unoffensively so for now I'll spit her out but hope no harshness comes across,& definately not asking in a judgemental way just to be clear not good at articulating which I'm lately realising is common with many , it's about hearing what the persons saying aye
Anyhoo do you work on your head, changing way of thinking, working out the problem going from there.
I'm learning the hardest parts are finding the tools (what's pulling us down specifically, why) from there we can either go with it or change it. To do this I'm only in early stages but very recently starting to open my mind to new better ways of thinking. What we need to do is retrain our minds which I think with everyone, not just M.Illness there's a part of us that is a master at pulling us down, I have a strong theory on that with evidence to back it, but another time.
I'm learning the hard parts are finding & learning to work the tools I'm sure we ALL have but depression buries, doesn't mean we can't get through though.

Learning more about how others cope with periods of mental ill health can be a great way to finding new ways of coping yourself, and the forums are all about sharing this kind of information with peers.
Just picking up on a point you made Demonblaster about using the thread to gather information for paid public speaking in the future, we just thought we'd clarify for the wider audience reading that we don't allow the forums to be used for research solicitations or commercial purposes. I'm sure that wasn't your intention at all, but we have a large audience here on the forums who read but don't take part (upwards of 80,000 unique visitors per month), and sometimes we need to clarify what this space is for so that everyone feels safe in participating and knows what they've signed up to.
Thanks again for a great thread, there is great potential here for focusing on the times when we aren't feeling low, figuring out what is happening in those moments and focusing on what is working in our lives, even if those moments are few and far between.

Thanks for your post.
Hopefully I can answer your questions! To be honest I wasn't completely sure about the first one - does it lift? Do you mean my mood? If so, then yes - sometimes. Depression varies a lot in intensity, so somedays will be better than others - like anyone I guess, but then the low mood can linger longer. Many people will find that they peak and fluctuate naturally during certain times of the day and the month - so I feel my best in the morning and my worst in the afternoon. Everyone is different.
As for the question about getting depressed when tired - yes. This is kind of a vicious cycle. For me, I struggle to get to sleep because I think too much, and then because I didn't get enough sleep I'm tired during the day.
I agree that depression can cause tiredness in itself; I read an article recently about how brain scans showed that people who were depressed took longer to get to sleep, woke frequently and had little to no deep sleep. This is why people with depression often have to be very conscious of their sleeping patterns and 'winding down' since insomnia is so commonly linked with it.
Feel free to let me know if I haven't answered your questions well enough. How does this help you with your Bipolar? Do you find difficulty in being tired as well?

Really appreciate how you said that thankyou.
Completely understand what you're saying and yes this is for my purposes to understand from others as well to work it all out.
Asking other sufferers i guess gives me more insight to work through it.
On saying that though when I make it which I"M GOING TO, info I'm getting here would be contributing to me learning about this which I need to understand to beat it.
But....very recently had some incredible positive things potentially going to happen, and it's been since I've lately realised I have to work way harder at my head and opening my mind.
Two VERY promising possibilities towards getting a project I've believed I can succeed with for yrs,off the ground, (My art) half way there if you believe, it's definately looking good for either or both happening, so in that case I'll be doing public speaking in a volunteer capacity. I've always since young wanted to help people & what better way than helping with crippling depression.
So what I'll do is not do it for a job. All good

Hi & thanks Romantic for your time and reply which yes is VERY helpful & yes the lift being better mood.
One of our main fundamental needs is enough sleep
Sleep studies via a clinical psychologist 4/5 yrs ago seems consistent today, we OMG can survive on four hrs sleep (I've known a couple & I tell ya, stress heads max, angry, tempers ) BUT that 4 hrs I think is the REM (rapid eye movement, dreaming correct if wrong 🙂 is the most important Needs to be unbroken. Yeah ya feel whacked aye. Not refreshed
Sleep: lack of brings stress on, I thinks the adrenalin
We become weaker mind & body.
Excercise helps also meditation works for many
Meditation: Distraction so the mind can relax, takes practise but worth it
I knew I needed to get this ? adrenalin out. Also causes stress
Poor concentration but achievable
I imagined a metal rod in centre of my torso with lightening size branches going out towards my sides.
Focused on the energy going down and outta the body through the branches
Didn't do it often but worked
That's how I've got the super highs down, but believe me they're great, don't wanna not have em
The cycles smash ya. It's like trying to stop a tsunami with your hands.
Tremendous but quite amazing what goes on
One of the reasons for this thread, is it's on the down exhausted side I think others do too is the worst depression but mostly it's before the high, (I'm usually both) & a mixed episode can be through the highs too.
Sleep: Doc said our bodies can only take so much then we do start sleeping but in the highs esp supers you hit the wall ..hard...but it keep pushing Does now too but not quite as exhausted.
Between cycles or episodes I sleep well, usually need about 10 hrs
