Why am I depressed if my life is perfectly fine

my life is perfectly fine, I have a loving family, nice friends and a girlfriend, my parents are sometimes stressing as for school but I don’t really think that’ll make me depressed, I have diagnosed depression and anxiety I’m 16, I harm myself and have suicide attempts I want to know why I’m depressed, but there’s no reason at all.

You're obviously a wonderful person, otherwise you wouldn't be so full of wonder. I'm glad you're wondering and not settling for a lack of answers when it comes to why you're feeling life the way you are.

 

Wonder opens the mind, which can lead to asking...

 

Mentally, are there any outdated depressing social belief systems that really have to go? Is this depression pushing me to let go of some? Do I deeply want to achieve something but everyone's telling me 'That's stupid'? Am I facing misleading people? Do I need inspiring leaders instead, who support my beliefs and passions? Do I have internal dialogue to manage? Do I need to manage 'the critic' in me that's telling me what a loser I am or am I in two minds about something? Is there a battle going on between my inner critic and 'the adventurer' in me? Is the adventurer dictating 'There has to be more in life than this! Living this way is not enough' while the critic dictates 'You're so ungrateful. Stop looking for more!'?

 

Physically, am I producing the right kinds and amounts of chemical energy/reactions, in order to function energetically? You could look at 'energy in motion' as e-motion, something you can feel. Do I have a depressing energy deficiency and not know it? B12, iron, thyroid deficiency can all reach depressing levels. Can't hurt to get the occasional blood test. Quality sleep produces energy. Chemical reactions in the gut produce energy. Gut-brain axis is a fascinating topic. Solar power (the right kind/amount of sun), hydro power (hydration), kinetic energy or powering up through exercise to the point where you can feel the heat/energy you produce etc are all different forms of production. We can be trying so hard to manage life with a depressing energy deficiency. Btw, mental/physical hyper activity (anxiety) can become draining.

 

Then there's what fuels the soul. While a passionate hobby could have fueled the soul for years, now it no longer does. Maybe we've outgrown it. There'll be another source of fuel somewhere, a new passion. Without some solid guides in life, leading us to find what will continue to inspire and energise us, we can be left standing still at crossroads with a deep soulful longing and lack of direction we can feel.

Hello Derek, people may have everything going for them that just seem to be ideal, but sometimes this isn't strong enough to avoid getting any type of depression, because there could be just one small point in their life they can't handle or understand why it's happening, so slowly this builds and then becomes a problem, that not any good facets in life can overcome, then this can affect you in many ways.

You can talk with Kids Helpline 24/7 on 1800 55 1800 by phone or online with trained counsellors who can then pinpoint what the problem is, because there is something that is troubling you.

Hi Derek

 

Depression isnt dependent on lifes circumstances. The fact that you have a good life yet are still depressed confirms the nature of the illness. However some things can make you more depressed like financial stress and relationship upset. So they can add to your condition.
