Unemployed- Feeling Depressed

Hi All,

Just recently (last month) I lost my job after only being there 7 months. This wasn't my fault but a company restructures and I, unfortunately, was one of the ones that had to go. Its been 6 weeks and all I've done is focus all my time and energy on trying to find another job. I've been unsuccessful multiple times and find that I'm not getting far in my search. I'm getting severely anxious and depressed in the process because i think as time goes on my chances of being hired are going to drop.

I have signed up to multiple agencies and have had no luck with them also.

I'm exhausted and feel like I cannot do anything until I find something so I don't end up in a downward spiral that I cant get myself out of.

FEELING STRESSED, CANNOT SLEEP AND REALLY WORRIED ABOUT MY FUTURE.

Hi sam

It is crucial that you pace yourself and not get caught up in stressing over things out of your control.

Do a fair days job searching and refuel your mind and body. Then bounce back again.

Hi AnxSam,

I am in a very very similar position although I'm a recent graduate just starting out. I finished my masters and was expecting a new career at the beginning of this year. And well 3 nearly 4 months later and all I'm getting are declines. It's also triggered my depression and anxiety so I can relate to the frustration on a certain level.

The one thing that is holding me together is the thought that there are things outside of our control that require a bit of patience. Its so hard to be fixated on those things but you and I have both tried as hard as we possible can to give ourselves the best opportunities. Now it's just the right timing and opportunity to come up. Job hunting sucks and can be so demoralising. But pace yourself and try to find a balance between leisure and job hunting. We've done the absolute best we can and we should be proud of that already.

And when that opportunity does come up and you get it (you will eventually), it will be so rewarding. Just hang in there 🙂

Hi Yosh,

Thank you for your POV and response, I can imagine how daunting and draining it would be to consistently be getting declines. I do hope your luck changes very soon. Battling through for 3-4 months is a very very commendable effort and you've done extremely well.

I hope my time doesn't look negatively on my CV for future employers as explaining to them my gap can be challenging 😞

Keep at it!! Hopefully there's some good news soon for the both of us
