im in a state of panic. my body feels weird. i didn’t sleep for 3 or 4 days. and ive had thoughts that ive never had before. im really scared. i took a antihistamine pill last night and i slept, but i feel dizzy today. i want to be how i used to be. i used to be relaxed and could sleep anywhere. i want to be stable so desperately. i want to know if someone has gone through this and how they got out of it and if they were successful. im not convinced i can be fixed.

Hi, welcome

There is usually a trigger or reason one feels anxious and go through a panic session. Such reactions need professional diagnosis and often if not attended to can lead to more serious issues like depression which, everyone that has it will advise that prevention is better than cure.

What I can say with experience, is that lack of good sound sleep is very much underestimated. Snoring or sleep apnoea  (stopping breathing a certain number of times per hour) can have multiple effects like short life span, moodiness and need for sleep during the day. It can also be dangerous eg driving when tired.

The process is to see your GP and they may order a sleep study which tells them all they need to know for treatment. I did that and ended up using a CPAP breathing device since 2012. One of the best things I've done to stabilise my moods which is bipolar related, it simply helps. Then work on your stability prior to sleep. Relaxation techniques can work well like muscle tensioning exercises. The body completely relaxes and you are ready to sleep.

One problem is that lack of sleep can have a snowball effect. With a few days not sleeping then you have a good sleep, the mind hasnt recovered. Army personnel need to remain awake up to 36 hours, however they simulate a battle zone so adrenalin is high and so forth even so many of them have difficulty enduring so long without body rest.

A good routine that works for you should be your goal. For me its having a couple of plain biscuits and juice then relaxation then I have to lie on my stomach to go to sleep. That ritual works so find your own routine.

Worry can cause an interruption with going to sleep. After 30 minutes if my mind is racing I'll rise and go on this forum for an hour then try again.

I hope that gives you an insight as to the importance of sleep and the difficulty recovering from days staying awake.

Hope I've helped. Here is a post on the topic
