Just joined the site so will keep it short for now. I have Major Depression and Fibromyalgia amongst other things. Right now I have that horrible feeling of alienation from the world, pain, brain fog etc. I now have a support system but it doesn't fill the blankness of the days, lack of motivation, fatigue and a feeling of pointlessly existing. Confused that I want no physical contact with people but am so isolated and alone at the same time. Not sure what I want, just know that Beyond Blue is a really good organisation. Hugs, J

Hi J,

Welcome!

Not long ago, maybe 4 years ago I got diagnosed with depression/anxiety. I had been suffering it since I was very little and I also found myself in a bad r'ship - which served as the catalyst to me beginning the process of healing.

That brain fog, alienation, disconnect, lack of motivation, fatigue and especially wanting no physical contact with people yet feeling isolated really resonates with me. I have been there, and I know you are going to find  a way out!

I believe these things don't happen out of a vacuum and it is very important to seek external help to assist you process and understand. It will feel useless, slow, sometimes you wonder even why you bother, but these things take so much time. Don't give up on the process, find help that suits your needs and most importantly, be patient on yourself.

Aside from therapy - which to admit, I changed 5 therapists and only went sporadically because I was a bit up and down - what really started to change me was finding something that worked for me. It was meditation, and it helped me to realise I was in control of my body and mind, and that my thoughts had a direct impact on my feelings and therefore my life ... I am still working on it, and believe it'll be a lifelong pursuit, but I found self awareness the key to getting myself better.

I'm not saying meditation may be right for you, but if you can find activities and places you can go, that are safe and take you away from the usual 'hole' you feel yourself in, it will help. Slowly, and one step at a time.

Good luck.

Hi Jenny B!

Thanks for posting and sharing J. Hey! You are not alone anymore. Many on this site share similar experiences to yourself and together we can share ideas to help each other. Substituder has some good ideas and I echo the sentiments on meditation.

So what DO you want J? What are you passionate about, what gets you going? How you can achieve some activity in these passions from where you sit? Have you ever tried drawing, painting or sculpture? I found drawing to be meditative and rewarding, and time consuming!

Hang in there mate, your existence is not pointless, love to you.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Substituder. Very good advice and nice to get your support. I do need to practice patience and go easy on myself but I do get so frustrated with it. The best thing is knowing I have been here before, and will come out the other side, but seem more labile this time. My Mum died a year ago and then my Dad almost exactly a year later a few weeks ago. My depression is being treated and I have a rheumatology appointment this week so hopefull can get some help with chronic pain. Your attitude is really great and I wish all the best for you, hugs, J

Thanks for your reply Jacko777. It helps to be on a supportive site with people in the same boat, who understand. I do have many activities that I enjoy and I am struggling to get back to them. At the moment though I am in semi zombi phase so just getting up is a challenge. As you mentioned arts and crafts plus gardening are some of my passions and eager to get back there. Waiting for energy and motivation to kick in. I will hang in here !. Hugs, J

Thanks so much for caring, it makes such a difference . I hope you are doing well.

Hi there Jenny B

Hey, great to hear back from you – and as it’s been a few months now since you’ve posted, I’m just wondering how you’re travelling now?

I hope that things have kind of levelled out for you a little bit.

Kind regards

Neil

Hi J,

I hope you are okay Jenny B. Do keep us posted. I hope you find the support you need and you know we are always up for a chat. If you don't mind me asking, what brought on the med changes?
