High school & moving

I used to love school. I had amazing teachers and friends and I got good grades. Then I moved across the world and everything changed. My class is small and most of the people in my class are kind of rude. And everyday when I go to school I feel so upset and the teachers there are awful and clearly do not know how to teach and I think I’ll have them as my teachers for one and half more years. I can’t do this anymore. My grades got worse and my few friends I have aren’t always supportive and I can’t transfer schools because the other schools near me are awful too. So I have no clue as to what to do. I’m so stressed and I get panic attacks a lot in school. I want things to go back to the way they used to be. I’m so stressed and confused and I have a test coming up too and we have so much to study for and it’s awful. I don’t know what to do 😞

Sounds terrible. Life has given you a challenge. Do you want to accept this challenge? Right now you have been thrown out of your comfort zone into something completely different, and something you don't like. This won't be the last time in your life this happens. Right now - even though it's the last thing you think you need - there's an opportunity or a soul destroying situation. My suggestion to you is to look to this as an opportunity. Whether you believe in luck, God, or the universe, a situation has occurred and you need to adapt in a hurry. Sit back and take yourself out of the situation. Sit back and look at the situation as if you are providing a friend with advice on how they should handle this situation. Then make a plan to deal with it. Can you make a meeting with a teacher and explain you're struggling? And then ask for clarity on the pieces that don't make sense?

Hello Perry.

Welcome to the forums. It’s really great that you’ve reached out here ☺️

Your situation sounds so tough. I can really hear your distress and confusion with what you can do about it. New schools are hard enough, but also facing such adverse conditions would be so difficult.

The main thing I’m wondering is if you would be willing to speak to your parents about how you’re feeling? If not your parents then a school counsellor or other adult that you feel comfortable with and trust. What you’re facing sounds like you need the support of someone you can trust to help you cope with the feelings you’re experiencing and help problem solve the situation. Maybe there are options you can’t see while you’re in the midst of it, or that you aren’t aware of.

When you’re young, having someone you can turn to is so crucial. I know it can be tough to reach out at first, but it so often is worth it. You deserve to be supported and heard, to not do this alone. For me, I didn’t find my parents open to discuss the worries I had, so I found a teacher that I trusted and she became my greatest ally through my teenage years. I don’t know how I would’ve got through high school without that grounding from someone wiser than me.

So please think about reaching out to someone. People will often surprise you with their willingness to help.

Take care, and keep reaching out here on the forums too if you need to.
