Hello Flowertop,
Thanks for reaching out.
I'm really sorry to hear that you have been feeling a mixture of conflicting emotions. I can't imagine how draining and emotionally taxing that must feel. Do you think a recent trigger caused these feelings to arise? or is this something you have always been dealing with?
Have you considered reaching out to the Support Services available? Please feel free to reach them via 1300 22 4636 or on Webchat 3pm-12am AEST on the website: www.beyondblue.org.au/getsupport. The friendly counsellors available might be helpful in providing professional advice regarding medication, referrals, and external support.
Please remember that the community is here to support you and I'm sure many people will chime in to provide their insights and advice.
Wishing you the very best and sending you warm thoughts ~

Hello Flowertop,
Depression makes us feel like you are feeling..I can resonate with what you’re feeling...the boredom, zero motivation, feeling flat...I’m sorry your struggling with these feelings..
Its really hard to try to manage depression on our own...I’m thinking that maybe if you could make a long appointment with your gp and talk to him/her about all your feeling and thinking...They can start you on a mental health plan with professionals that can diagnose you and start you on meds if they think it will benefit you along with help from a councillor...
Talk here anytime you feel up to it..We are here to help you the best we can..
Kind thoughts with care..
Grandy..

Hi Sarahz
Thankyou for reaching out to me and the support services info.
I can’t think of any particular trigger except life and how my mind seems to be processing things.
I’m exercising a little, not really drinking alcohol because I feel even more flat the following day. My diet has gone out of control, no energy or brain organisation to think about what to buy and cook.
Appreciate you kind words.

Hello Flowertop, the number of people I've spoken to, by phone, and in lock down don't feel any motivation and just want to stay home, but can only watch TV for a limited time.
There are 'online jigsaws to play', 'online chess', 'online drawing or classes' you can do to try and wither away the time you have.
Best wishes.
Geoff.

Hi Flowertop
I feel for you so very much. It can be so overwhelming when we're looking for a difference but don't know where to start looking. I'm glad you felt inspired to start looking here. So many caring thoughtful people here who want to make a positive difference for others.
You mention 'I just feel flat...'. I know this may sound a little simplistic but 2 questions that come to mind
- What drains you?
- What charges you up?
The media can definitely be draining. You can be in a fine mood when you turn on the news to face how terrible things are, how hopeless things appear to be. Being a sensitive gal, the media's typically a no go zone for me most of the time. It tends to drain me or anger me. Taking note of people around us can also be important. Being in a negative environment can be draining at times, especially when we're sensitive to other people's 'vibe'. The environment itself can sometimes require a bit of a shake up. If we're stuck in sameness, creating difference can help create a tiny 'up shift'. Moving the furniture around may not seem like much but every time we look at the difference we made, it becomes a reference to 'I'm someone who makes a difference'. This thought can help trigger a little dopamine.
Biology or chemistry will also make a difference in how we're vibing. Basically, we're powered by energy. Whether it's the restorative energy that comes with good sleep, solar power (vitamin D), hydro power (our cells thrive on water) or the natural energy that's found in a good diet, we react to energy just as we react to a lack of it (like with that lack of dopamine). The kind of energy that's created through iron and B12 is significant. Blood tests to see how things are 'measuring up' is worth considering. In one way, we're a big bag of chemical/energy reactions. If something's out of whack, we'll feel the impact.
It is said that we naturally thrive on a healthy balance or relaxation and excitement. An imbalance can impact us holistically. While stress can have us in unhealthy states of hyperactivity and inevitable exhaustion, a lack of excitement or difference (within potentially soul destroying sameness) can also impact us psychologically, biologically and naturally. When there's little 'charging us up' in positive ways, we can be left feeling little positive difference. When there's a lot charging us up, we can feel a lot of difference.
Discovering what naturally puts us 'in charge' is more like a quest than a basic challenge.
🙂

Hi Therising
Thankyou for responding to me. I really like the concept of ‘charge up ‘myself.
I find I have moments of feeling energised and need to embrace that. I know I feel better at least sitting out in nature. I managed a short beach walk today.
I had an appointment with my doctor today snd when I was as outside on my way to the car, this stranger gave me an enthusiastic hello, which appeared to snap me out into happiness for a short time.
I feel like I am having moments of charging and need to appreciate this.

Hello Flowertop,
Thanks for taking the time to reply! How are you feeling recently?
I really like the ideas @therising has mentioned about what charges you up. The story about the stranger giving you an enthusiastic hello is really endearing to hear. Even though the happiness it provided you felt only momentary, it’s these small moments that really add up.
Something you may find useful is keeping a small to-do list in a journal, and trying to take things each day as it comes. This to-do list can include really simple goals, like eating breakfast, walking outside for 15minutes, or even reading a short excerpt from a book. Making small little goals and progressively making them bigger may be beneficial in energising you both physically and mentally. There will be inevitably be days were you don’t meet any small goals and that’s perfectly okay! Somedays you may just want to lie in bed and do nothing and that’s also completely okay. Try not be too hard on yourself, some days are always harder than others. Remember that this community is always here supporting you and cheering you on 🙂
Sending you warm and positive thoughts ~
