Borderline Personality Disorder

NetDog
Community Member

Hi,

I am new to writing in forums about mental health. I have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and my psychologist told me to try reaching out on Beyond Blue when it was out of her business hours.

At the moment I am having trouble with containing my feelings and am so frustrated and tired of struggling with BPD. To top it off, our financial situation is putting more pressure on me, and we are unable to get any help. So I have to find a second job as well as deal with my illness, family life and first job.

Hi, welcome

It's satisfying to read your psychiatrist has recommended beyondblue for out of hours support.

I must also congratulate you for your bravery. Not many sufferers of BPD seek help and if they do it doesn't last long.

There is many facets of life that take their toll on people with mental illness. Poor financial situations is one of them, the stress is enormous. Worse case consider declaring bankruptcy. Or have short, medium and long term plans for better financial security. Accept it will take time. Once you've set your financial goals remember- worrying about them will give you ulcers only, it won't help your cause. Also it isn't what you earn, it's how much you spend.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I really wish we had better mental health services in rural areas. I have been in desperate need of getting help but my psychologist doesn’t work outside of her hours set, and my psychiatrist comes up from Sydney each month, but waiting times for a follow up appointment are 3+ months. I am so frustrated and angry.

Hi NetDog,

Welcome and I'm glad that you joined us. I can see that TonyWK has already given you a warm welcome and I hope that you find this a helpful community.

I hear you about the rural area; I live in the city now but there's a big difference in accessibility and wait times for everyone. When you say 3+ months, do you mean that's how often you are seeing your psychologist?

While I'm thankful that you're here, I also want to link to saneforums.org - We do have lots of members with BPD here but the Sane forums have much more, so I encourage you to check that out too.
