Hey startingnew and everyone else,

I think my Dad inspires me, though indirectly. He went to a crummy high school and was one of only several people in his school year to attend university. He now owns businesses and also volunteers on organisation boards and councils. He always supports my sister and I, and is proud of what we achieve. I've had mental health struggles over the years (like many people here), but he and my Mum stuck by me and made me feel safe and cared about.

Best wishes,

Zeal

"the most beauitful
people we have known are those who have known defeat, known
suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out

an understanding of life that fills them with compassion. Gentleness
and a depp loving concern. Beautiful people dont just happen

Hi startingnew,

There are many people who inspire me- definitely more than one but far too many to list. The person that I would like to honour and acknowledge today is one of grandfathers.

He was a progressive man who was well ahead of his time. Sadly, he has passed but his legacy lives on. In a time when many women were not encouraged to pursue higher education, my grandfather was a fierce supporter of my mum and aunts' education. My aunts and my mum each received multiple university degrees, undergrad and postgrad, and it was actually my uncle who did not attend uni (his own choice).

He also had a keen interest in martial arts and ran a not-for-profit martial arts centre as a side project. This was (is?) a field- especially considering his age- that was male dominated. But being a bit of mover and shaker, he never discriminated and welcomed interested females. He was absolutely delighted when one of my sisters showed an interest in martial arts and was only too happy to train her.

Through his NFP martial arts program, he supported many struggling families e.g. helped pay some of their bills. He was a family man as much as a community man and an early feminist. Yes, men can be feminists- my grandfather is an excellent example.

Kind thoughts,

Pepper

I recently finished a book and a Sudanese man by the name of Deng Adult has been an inspiration because he put things into perspective for me with my life.

He survived a brutal civil war like many from his country and experienced and seen horrors most ppl can only imagine. He went on to become a refugee and studied law in Australia and is now a criminal lawyer despite nightmares and a horrific past.

Songs of a war boy is his book and I thought if he can do it anyone can. A true inspiration.
