I got to admit,I love reading at the best of times. Those of us who love to read tend to get the most out of books.I'm a big fan of books that I can learn from.Self help books, relationship books, etc. There's something worth learning.I even read up on dating books just to relearn some skills. As a guy I also love the guy stuff, cars, hobbies, interests, man cave, etc.

What book are you reading? What books are you reading? What helps you?

Thanks.

Hi Hanna

I cannot remember which book it was of hers (Scribble Scribble? Or Crazy Salad?!) but she writes about how she became a columnist in a very sexist industry. She worked very hard and started really at the bottom of the heirachy at a paper.... I don't remember where.... It was so interesting how she was given increasing responsibilities and aced them, until eventually being one of the only women working in a copywriting role.
She was smart, talented and personable - and achieved so much in her life. Smart lady.

Thanks Sleepy!

I love the movie Michael with John Travolta - he acted the part as if he was having so much fun (and apparently that's why he took it on). It always makes me feel happy when I watch it!

I hope you are travelling OK today. Let's hope a new year will bring good things your way!

Do you have a favourite Nora Ephron movie???

I used to read books all the time. Nowadays, I spend more time writing my own fiction (and reading what I’ve written countless times both during and after a draft is completed), which is channelling my love of reading in a different way, I guess...?

Having said that, I’m currently seven books into the Roswell High series (I started watching the recent adaptation and enjoy it so much that I’ve decided to work my way backward), and I delve into some Magic: The Gathering-related fiction at least once a month, give-or-take.

And... uh... do Dungeons & Dragons sourcebooks count...? WOW, I’ve gotten complacent of late... 😅

Hi NobleAlarc... i think reading what you've written is a great way to continue and delve into a love of reading - and place urself into the picture of literature. Good on u

Is that similar to Roswell the TV show?
I'm probably 10 years older than u at least so may not know the latest sci fi recs - I'm very out of the loop - so sorry if this sounds stupid. I only know Roswell from a TV show that aired when I was a teenager.

I love reading graphic novels myself and havent read a book in a while. Short stories also inspire me.

Thanks for posting NobleAlarc - hope ur writing is going well.

I have just finished a sci fi book called "Sunstorm" by Stephen Baxter and Arthur c Clarke. It wasn't their best work, but it was ok. Typical sci fi natural disaster story. I prefer it when Stephen Baxter writes more about different alien races and using black holes to propel space ships to another galaxy.

I am currently reading "Hit Me" by Lawerence Block. It is about a hitman, who is trying to move away from his previous employment. But he the economy crashes and he has to go back into his previous role. He also likes to collect stamps for fun. Ever heard of the movie "A Walk among the tombstones", with Liam Neeson? Well Lawerence Block wrote the book that, that move was based on.

one of my favourite quotes is: I get so easily lost in books, they were there for me when no one else was.

Hi Sleepy,

Definitely enjoy your 30s, it's a terrific age to be - so are your 40s! Do you follow any book blogs? I follow a couple in Australia and overseas. It's great because not only do you get put on to great books to read, but you get to know and chat with the other people who come on, similar to BB, and we have some lovely discussions - not necessarily about reading but all sorts of things.

Absolutely!

Does anyone listen to audio books? I quite often get migraines, which sometimes last for days and I can't do anything but lie about. I'm thinking an audio book might help pass the time, but not sure what book/s would be good read by someone else if that makes sense. I did look in the bookstore but couldn't decide. They did have Pillars of the Earth which I'm keen to read, but - as an audio book? Anyway - any recommendations would be great.
