I got to admit,I love reading at the best of times. Those of us who love to read tend to get the most out of books.I'm a big fan of books that I can learn from.Self help books, relationship books, etc. There's something worth learning.I even read up on dating books just to relearn some skills. As a guy I also love the guy stuff, cars, hobbies, interests, man cave, etc.

What book are you reading? What books are you reading? What helps you?

Thanks.

Hi Moon (hello everyone)

Tiny Beautiful Things - is that by the woman from the Dear Sugars radio programme? I love listening to it online and it's stopped, oh no! They have the older programmes available to listen to. I just checked and my library has it, I'm going to borrow it as I love that show and their advice. So glad you mentioned this and excuse me for butting in on the conversation... cheers.

Hanna3 and Quirky

Yes, Tiny Beautiful Things is a collection of Cheryl's advice column Dear Sugar which she wrote for no payment at all....she is so realistic, down to earth, honest, yet caring and loving in her replies...I just love that book. The questions and her answers cover all sorts of topics from all sorts of real people.... yes Quirky, how could I forget dear old Chekhov and Ibsen...the ones that spring easily to my mind, have usually written something I've acted in, so I confess they're a little more close to my heart.... You were so lucky to have stayed near the Neil Simon theatre...I'd have been in 7th Heaven.

Hello Moonstruck, Quirky, and Hanna

I'm really fascinated by Chery's work now -thank you so much

I have heard of Harold Pinter (I know he is very famous) but not sure what he has wrote...

I saw The Seagull performed and loved it. (Chekov)... I like plays old and new....And musicals.

I lived in NY and was desperate to see a production of Hedda Gabbler by Ibsen but it sold out....Maybe I can still see it one day!!

Hope u enjoy revisiting the Dear sugar programme and the written version Hanna. Sounds awesome.

Hi Moon

Do you listen to the Dear Sugar recordings at all? Some fairly recent ones are still available, she and the fellow that also comments are so non-judgmental. I do enjoy listening to the advice they try to give. I got the book this evening from the library, hooray. I'm just sorry the programme isn't still running!

Neil Simon wrote The Odd Couple didn't he? I like Tennessee Williams very much too - Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, The Glass Menagerie (which was about his sister and heartbreaking).

Lovely to chat, thank you!

I also love Arthur Miller, David Mamet, Neil Labute for some more recent twists.... amazing playwrights!

Hi Sleepy,

Living in the USA would have been wonderful for the theatre!!! I think Harold Pinter wrote Death of a Salesman? I stand to be corrected on that... Seeing the Chekhov would have been marvellous. I once managed to get a front row seat (in a bit city in Australia) to see the Bolshoi Ballet Company with Rudolf Nureyev - he was past his best by then sadly, but being so close to the dancers was amazing. I had just gone up to the ticket window when they took a call from the theatre saying they were running for a second night - and I had the entire empty theatre to choose seats from, wow. That sort of thing only happens once!

I hope you are travelling OK there... lovely to talk. hugs.

Hey Hanna

Wow that is so lucky to be up front, such a special feeling... I guess the timing was just perfect and meant to be

I'm glad u got to enjoy

I did enjoy the Chekov play. I also love amateaur and experimental theatre. I saw a uni producting of The Laramie Project which is still one of my favourite theatre experiences! And I think I went to a show once performed in an old prison... that was a bit spooky!

Got a book voucher for christmas and got me some books to read from Amazon on Kindle...

  • Daring Greatly (Brene Brown),
  • A liberated mind (S Hayes)
  • and a couple of others

Happy me 🙂

So many good playwrights...all different. Tennessee Williams of course..Streetcar named Desire. I'd love to play Vivian Leigh's role..and Dylan Thomas with Under Milkwood and the list goes on. Arthur Miller who Wed Marilyn Monroe..they just didn't look right together. Happy Reading.

I'm reading The Weekend by Charlotte Wood. It's about a group of older women who gather together to clear out the house of a friend who has died, and the repercussions her loss has on their friendships. Great reading for anyone who is older... and it's Australian!
