Very Depressed - Islamic Terrorism

I am very depressed and concerned by what is happening in our world thanks to Islamic terror groups and Wahhabism.

I am extremely alarmed at what I see happening in Iraq with regards to ISIS.

What is occurring in our world today is unacceptable and it saddens me deeply.

Tears in my eyes when I look at my 2 year old daughter. It upsets me to think of what her generation might inherit in her world. It breaks my heart to watch the news.

The worlds people must unite and stop this immensely anti-social and in humane belief system which is robbing humanity of freedom and diginity.

I am troubled, concerned and worried. Sadness consumes me daily.

I keep thinking of the quote "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." I haven't seen any good men yet.

In Matthew 5:39 Jesus says, "But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also." and in Luke 6:29 he says, "If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek also. If someone demands your coat, offer your shirt also."

Thanks to all who have commented.

I have learned this week that the brutality and evil that we are witnessing in our world is not Islam and my outlook on Muslims has improved thanks to many Islamic leaders here and around the world condemning the actions of ISIS.

I'll be honest and say I'm terrified by what I've seen in the news this week. I'm sure any sane person who is aware in the slightest of the events occurring in Iraq and Syria would also be incredibly concerned.

I shed tears this evening as I glanced over the news headlines. Tears not for me, but for my young daughter who celebrates her 2nd birthday this weekend. How I hope the world will find peace in her lifetime.

I'm trying to convince myself that the one good thing about ISIS situation is that it may cause the world's people, the international community to unite in the face of such evil and fight together for peace and stability in our world.

Just some thoughts. Peace to you all.

Do you take it literally and practise the teaching of Jesus?

The purpose of wars is to fight evil. If some breaks your arm, will you offer your leg too? If some demands your car, will you offer him your house too?

I am in a cheeky mood today :=)

Yes, I have done so. I've been slugged in the side of the face in a nightclub. The attacker was very taken aback when I suggested to him to also hit the other side of my face. He didn't, instead he bought my friends and I a beer.

It could have just as easily gone the other way and been a very painful experience.

There are lots of really interesting posts on here and I really feel for you Guy40s as it's your compassion that makes you feel such pain.

As I say I don't watch the news. I've seen a lot about Gaza on FB and been made aware that I can at least donate to help their situation.

Within Britain I'm trying to do my little bit. The European Union and USA are in the process of signing a treaty that would give Corporations the right to sue the Govt if legislation got in the way of their profits. This would seriously affect the rights of everyday people. So on Saturday along with 6 others I stopped people in the high street of our town and explained the situation (it's been kept very hush hush) and gave out leaflets. That really lifted my spirits. I felt that I was doing a wee bit to try and help towards justice. Probably if I explained more about the treaty you'd agree.

Then for me there is the day to day work towards helping others in their struggles. People who come into the charity shop where I work. It's to buy our stuff but so often these people are struggling in lots of other ways. I chat to people and sometimes someone opens up and tells me how difficult their day is. I remember once someone telling me she'd had a breakdown. I listened and talked a little. She said I was the first person who'd ever understood her.

We have homeless people in our towns. I used to chat to this guy who'd been injured in Northern Ireland some years ago and since then things had got worse and worse. I chatted regularly and felt so sorry for him that one day I gave him £100 - no mean sum. He was delighted and went on to tell me it would help him to pay for his holiday in Jamaica! Sometimes I get things wrong!!!

I suppose what I'm saying is we can all make a difference in peoples lives. It is so frustrating when we can't help those who make up the horrendous headlines. I hope that by doing the bits I can it will lead to more people being compassionate like you and so many on here and somehow that will make the world a better place.

Btw. I have twin grandsons at 2yo so I understand where you're coming from.

It's not easy to step outside of your belief system! They probably think they're doing what God wants them to do. I take it by your mention of the pope that you're Catholic? Well, Christianity does some bad things, and I guess you haven't abandoned it yet. Oppression of gays and women. Indirectly spreading AIDS by lying to Africans, telling them that condoms increase the chance of AIDS. Institutional rape of children and cover-up.

But I presume by the repetitive asking of the same question, you are the type of person that will poke an animal with a stick until it bites. And then blame the animal for biting you. Well I am not going to bite, no, I forgive you.

Hi everyone,

This thread is starting to go off track a bit, so I'm locking it to further replies. Debate is good, but let's try and keep it respectful. Arguments on the internet can easily get out of control at the best of times, let alone when you're dealing with depression as well and we can read intentions into people's words that may not be there.
