Broken Arrow

I reached for a broken arrow
From my quiver of hope
And I prayed for a moment
God, please guide it straight and true

I reached for a lost memory
From my vessel of dreams
And I prayed for a moment
God, please help it shine through

I reached for more wisdom
From my imprisoned mind
And I prayed for a moment
God, please help me see the truth

I reached for more rapture
But had nowhere to look
And I stopped praying that moment
Only I can help me get through

Goodbye baby Z

why so teary? days dreary?
(she said no more)
in front a bus. what fuss
(she said no more)
concentric circles. thoughts emerge
unspoken. already broken
(I said no more)
Big Z, little Z,
It's all the same, A shadow game
blame blame blame
shame shame shame
shame shame

(and now one more)

The volunteer

His head hangs low
Eyes almost shut
A Breath of wind
Begins to blow
Lifting his head
Oh so slow
Eyes scan the hills all around
Ears listen for that terrible sound
He feels a Hand on his head
Rest easy mate
The fires dead

(thank you to all the volunteer fire fighters)

I just read this whole thread
WOW!
So many wordsmiths, story tellers and bards.

Insomnia

Once upon a silent night
whilst all around were sleeping
a moment came that realised
all the secrets she was keeping
the half forgotten whispers
promises not kept
words carved in heart's wood
as on and on they slept
unknown and uncared
wide awake the memories bubbled
knowing the morrows inmates
would carry on untroubled
life's flashes kept the eyes wide open
lest enemies still lingered
roaming free forever
as in one's own mind unhindered
once upon a dawning light
now all has come and preyed
lifting lids on childhood fears
though nothing but obeyed
retrospective analyses
nothing wrong was done
but all the guilt evermore
injures more than one

Endless torture

The nights they are the longest
Because my mind is full of you
So much time has passed
You’ve proved I am a fool

Your kisses they still linger
I feel your fingers drag my skin
My heart still beats for you
I revel in the sin

And though It knows it shouldn’t
My mind still drifts to you
And even though we couldn’t
Our time is never through

Even though you’ve forsaken me
I still feel like we’re meant to be
Rid me of this disease
I just want you please

I endure through these long nights
And try corral thoughts of all types
Someone please turn out the lights
I feel I’ve nothing left to fight

Again and again

And here I am alone again
Here comes that hole again
Forgot to play my role again
Got myself feeling low again
Drown the heart you stole again
Your love takes its toll again
When will I feel whole again
Starting to lose control again
Fighting to save my soul again
Spiralling down the drain again
I’m getting hit with “no” again
I’ve nowhere else to go again
Time to quit the show again

Hope it's ok that l leave a small offering here

Rocks of pure gold , of pure blood , pure soul , and one million years.

Suns of warmth , suns of fire, beauty , and days of tears .

The heart loves what the heart loves, the heart feels what the heart feels

The soul knows the truths , the soul knows the reals , knows when to rejoice, knows when to kneel

Sunshine snow stones, hearts and souls , the beauty of nature to be had for free

A world, planet, human, is what was meant to be.

The death of my imagination
The death of my erstwhile soul
There will be no more pagination
There will be no more record of toll

It left in the brightness of the day
It left in the darkness of the night
There is nothing to finish the grey
There is nothing to fill in my white

Do not leave me to stand all alone
Do not leave me to the evil fight
There was contempt to atone
There was curiosity to light

Ok, be kind! I was playing around with rhyme schemes, but this may be appropriate to those struggling, too.

If the road to ruin, or highway to hell is paved, as they say

With good intentions, perhaps when the time comes, if it ever

Does to turn around and return to the path that is better

There are no shortcuts. Each previously laid lump of concrete

Or whatever was used to make the road must be cast away,

Dug up and thrown to the way-side, and you must endeavour

To fill the hole with good deeds, because with each step a debt or

Promise was implicit, and must be remitted to complete

The return journey. Little wonder that few can comprehend,

Let alone finish the homeward journey, but precious few know

That you don't need to. You'll find that regardless of where you end,

You'll be met, and what matters is does your back or face show?

Hi everyone, I am currently in self-isolation and decided to try my hand at poetry. This is new to me so don't be too harsh lol - hope the bit of humour is okay

Covid-19 Handwashing
By Michael Patrick Ringland
So with this here corona virus they say it helps to wash your hands - well that’s ok, I understand
but for 20 seconds or more they say- and to keep the time sing happy birthday, not once but twice!! Now all that sounds so clear, precise
but I am old and over many years if I sing happy birthday I need a cake
– it doesn’t have to be too grand as long as it can take a candle - so 50 cupcakes I went and baked and now it feels right make no mistake.
Every time after I go to the loo out comes a cupcake with candle too, the candles lit and off I go washing hands to happy birthday one and two and then blow out the candle with a puff now apparently hands are clean enough.
Well this worked well for the first few times but before I knew it old habits climbed
into my head - and after visiting the loo and finishing happy birthday two I launched into hip hip hooray and jolly good fellow and todays your day
so now my handwashing takes 4 to 5 minutes so if there’s a prize for clean hands I’d certainly win it,
if there’s any suggestions I would very much welcome - for an alternative song for washing my hands - as long as it’s not a Xmas carol you see – for that would require me to put up the tree
