The BB cafe is open for business!
Welcome all to a new chill and chat place for everyone on the forum.
The BB cafe is whatever you want it to be. There are comfy sofas, tables and chairs, coffee machines, a kitchen stocked with everything. There's a pool outside, a bbq area, an annexe with comfy beds for a quiet sleep, tv, dvd, books and whatever else you would like to have here.
Most of all, it's a place to meet friends and fellow travellers for a bit of company. Talk over problems, tell jokes, share your day, escape into a world of your making. Grab a coffee and pull up a chair ...
So, with a nod to the wonderful Carole King (Hard Rock Cafe) ...
Now if you're feeling just a little bit lonely
Don't sit at home just mopin'
Come on down to where the friendship flows freely
You know the door is always open
At the BB cafe
Come to the BB cafe
They will help keep your blues at bay
At the BB cafe

Thank you, Nimi, I like gingerbread very much.
It's also a pleasure to meet you.
I had a gingerbread 'person' that had two eyes & two buttons made of smarties, & reaalised the baker had cut the candies in half, so only needed two per gingerbread 'person' - given the price, I'm sure they could have given me four whole candies.

Hi everyone, that’s a good idea mmMeKitty about trying to keep cats cool in this heat, don’t know how my 2 cats would like it or not. I never thought to try placing a cool cloth on them recently when we had temperature of almost 36 degrees and no power from mid afternoon until approx 9pm. SB curled up on scratching post and slept most of the time. LG won’t settle and constantly moved from one room to another finally stretching out on the garage floor.
about 1hour before power was restored it started to rain and the temperature started to drop. 2 little noses twitched and smelt the rain and the fresh air.
remember my mum telling me when she was a child, on hot days the house was kept dark inside and her dad hung damp hessian over windows and doors with windows open a small amount to let fresh air in

Good suggestion, too, Patches.
I'm just wondering if the RSPCA would have any suggestions for animal owners about caring for them in the heat.
Too late tonight for me to go researching now.

Quick search online mmMeKitty for keeping indoor pets cool on hot days came up with
- cooling mat or damp towels for them to lay on
- keep rooms as dark as possible
- allow access to bath or shower
- add ice cubes to their drinking water
houses didn’t have air con when my mum was young, not sure if they even had portable fans.
always remember mum saying rooms were kept dark, the damp hessian bags and that herself and her siblings when young would stretch out on the floor of the central passage, pillow each and told to try to sleep. The differences between early 1940’s to now

Great ideas, Patches, thank you so much!
My place usually is rather dim, by usual standards, because I can't stand the glariness of the bright outdoors.
Mekitty always had access to the shower cubical. She liked to play with the water dribbling down the drain.
I had to intentionally encourage her to drink, by holding the cup for her. Otherwise I was not at all sure she was drinking any water except what she licked from wet paws, after playing in the shower ...
I wish I'd thougth to add ice cubes, or to lay a damp towel down.
Last night I was recalling how dogs enjoy ice cubes. Yu've reminded me of that thought, so thanks, again.

Now, I suppose, with some storms about, we might have some suggestions for how to help our furry friends cope with them?
Mekitty usually hid under my bed. I did my best to remain calm, though d;uring severe storms I find it difficult to remain still & I feel the anxiety more acutely as a storm worsens.
However, I realise, yesterday wasn't so bad for me, given the amount of wind & the noise of the heavy rain, which may or may not have included hail ... I was more interested in allowing more of the cool wind into my flat, even though it meant that the entrance got wet. (That's not happened in more than 20 years of my living here). I just wanted that breeze, so I could feel less hot & sticky. It really helps to have something else to think about, eh?
Today's storm was mild by comparison, at least where I live.
I hope everyone is fairing alright, with whatever the weather you are experiencing..

Hey everyone,
I was on holidays when the storms were going on back home, but my cats are always absolutely terrified in bad weather. They run to hide at the sound of thunder. I'm with them to be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of storms, even if I am curled up on my couch inside. I prefer gentle rain to thunderous storms.
You're right, mmMekitty, it helps to have a distraction. Headphones, a book, somebody else in the room with you, a game, anything.
Does anyone here like storms? What does everyone like to do when there's a storm or heavy rain, or where do you like to be?

Hello SB & everyone
Once upon a time I would be excited by storms, when they were approaching & during. I loved to watch them, all the lightning & how the clouds moved across the sky ... until I moved into a place upstairs where I could hear all the noise, which got to be too much & I began to feel anxious about storms.
I'd want to stay on my bed, to keep my feet off the floor, as if to prevent me from being zapped by lightning striking somewhere near & finding its way to me. But the, I was also restless in my anxiety, & wanted to keep looking out the windows, from one side of my flat to the other.
I was very pleased to realise the storm of last Friday didn't have me feeling so anxious because of how distracted I was in my determination to let the cool wind into my flat, to enjoy how it felt, to cleaning up the water on the floor. Yes, that was very good for me, although I was still going from one end my flat & back again, many times & looking outside, although I can't see much anyway.
I know I look outside to ease my anxiety, but I wonder why I continue to bother with that, knowing full well I can't see much out there anymore, as if I still think it will make a difference to how I feel ... ????

Hello everyone,
I'm not a fan, but I don't mind the thunder & lightening that comes with storms as long as it rains as well. What does put me on edge is strong or gale force winds, whether with a storm or not.

Hello! Just popping in here to say hi - I am sending you good vibes for your day.
Fun thing that I did this weekend - I found some great shoe jibbitz & redecorated my crocs! I've been wanting to do this for ages, but hadn't been able to find ones online that were affordable and what I wanted.
This weekend I went to a community festival and found a beautiful market stall with lots of awesome jibbitz - now when I look at my feet, I have a giggle and a smile at all the cute little pieces on them!
Anywho - this is your sign to bedazzle something if you think it will bring you joy too.
Catch you around! 🙂
