The BB cafe is open for business!
Welcome all to a new chill and chat place for everyone on the forum.
The BB cafe is whatever you want it to be. There are comfy sofas, tables and chairs, coffee machines, a kitchen stocked with everything. There's a pool outside, a bbq area, an annexe with comfy beds for a quiet sleep, tv, dvd, books and whatever else you would like to have here.
Most of all, it's a place to meet friends and fellow travellers for a bit of company. Talk over problems, tell jokes, share your day, escape into a world of your making. Grab a coffee and pull up a chair ...
So, with a nod to the wonderful Carole King (Hard Rock Cafe) ...
Now if you're feeling just a little bit lonely
Don't sit at home just mopin'
Come on down to where the friendship flows freely
You know the door is always open
At the BB cafe
Come to the BB cafe
They will help keep your blues at bay
At the BB cafe

Hi Fiatlux. I like the idea of having ducks in my swimming pool, if I had one. I hope they do figure out how to get out.
I think there's a couple others around BB who have had ducks & ducklings in their swimming pools, so I would like to ask if they have seen how the ducklings get out again, please?
It's a soup day today, tomorrow, & likely Friday too. That's what I think whenever it is overcast & rainy. Still, not badly, where I am.
Big hugzies to anyone affected by the floods.

Hi mmMekitty and All Cafe dwellers,
My ducks left yesterday afternoon. As per previous years I leave the gates open so they can exit. No sooner as the gates opened, mother duck marched them out. I suspect she takes them back to the nearby wetlands.
We have a warm sunny day again today but the heavens are expected to open again tomorrow for the rest of the weekend.
Soup on the menu tomorrow night. I have homemade chicken stock in the fridge so I can get creative.
Stay safe, dry and warm everyone.

Good evening 🙂 how's going everyone?
I always think it'd be great to set up a landscape in the backyard, mockup waterfall, ponds, etc. wouldn't it be a great place to have duckies? But it could cost a lot, what do you think?
Can I have a cup of chai latte here? No sugar or sweetener needed lol

Hi everyone,
OTr, I think it would be wonderful to have an area in backyard. It could be so peaceful & calming, a space to unwind, like an oasis away from traffic & busy places with the loud music & all the noises us humans make... but there is a lot to consider, like who's going to be maintaining the space, you or do you intend hiring experts to implement your idea? Do you want to start from scratch, planting from seed or seedlings, or would you pay mor for bigger plants? How much land scaping & what is needed to install a waterfall?
I don't want to put you off, if you have the ways & means to do that... it sounds so lovely.
Ducks & maybe frogs & fishes, birds in the trees, & perfumed flowers all around a place to rest & put your feet up, under the shade of a tree. if I let my imagination go, just thinking it's so very relaxing. (Maybe that' because in my imagination I don't have to work too hard, or pay any money to anyone to enjoy the result!) [Happily grinning LRC daydreaming, on the pool table]

Hey BB Cafe goers, ahhh yes it's wonderful having a big back yard lol but just to level set the imaginings here, it's darned hard work too!
That should make you happier lol.
Fiatlux, that's SO COOL the little ducklings were happy at yours lol. I'm seeing them all the time around near my work and I just want to HUG them all. I don't of course, just watch but aren't they the CUTEST?
We've had ducks on and off over the years, it's a lot of cleaning up! Lol. Same with chickens of course. Our girls are housed now, so I collect their deposits for our soil, save it up for the kids' vege patches and donate some in buckets with lids to the local Community Gardens near by.
There's been PONDS in their coop over the past year, with all the rain. Hearing more rain was on the way, I rolled 3 Straw bales into their house so they could hop around HIGH up away from the water.
Plus took some huge tree stumps with roots on them to leave there, then move on the weekends so they could scrummage around in the soil where they were. Gosh they love this game! hahaha.
We have 2 bath sized worm farms and I'm about to rejuvenate the 2 at work soon. Great for the kitchen scraps that the chickens aren't allowed to have like kiwi fruit, avocado and they don't like raw onion. I bury my potato peelings in paper bags to create a potato patch, marvellous thinking EM lol. Works a treat!
OTR if a place has a slope, like mine, then a little creek is possible. My grandkids built a creek bed here a few weeks ago, it's been dug up by the Brush Turkeys so the kids will have to problem solve that one next time lol.
We also have a little boat right side up that fills with water for the frogs to breed in. It only works because we have an organic garden. Frogs are super sensitive to any noxious "weed" sprays etc. It's on a slant so the frogs can HOP out once they're grown. We find frogs everywhere lol, I had to gently take one out of our laundry the other day and pop him down in the boat lol.
Who knows what's on in the Cafe for dinner?
Love EM

I'd love some of Fiatlux's chicken soup. Do you make dumplings for it?
A/long, long time ago ... we had some homemade chicken soup, which might have been my (ex-)step-mothers's, but I'm not sure, because it had dumplings like herby bread & they looked a lot like (I thnk now), cauliflower heads. The soup my (ex-)step-mother made occasionally, later during my childhood, didn't have the dumplings.
That would be so great tonight, thanks Fiatlux. [Loudly purring LRC, squirrelling around your legs & if I get too impatient, given the wonderful fmells in the kitchen, I will jump up on the counter - just trying to read the kitchen timer.]

I'll have some Japanese dishes tonight.
Good evening EM, it sounds like you have quite a big outdoor place for the brush turkeys and the frogs. 😊
Mekitty, is it the classic chiken&dumplings that you talked about? did you add ham? 😊

Lol OTR, sounds like Kitty adds ham to almost anything!
Dumplings hey? That's a blast from the past. My great grandmother had her dumpling recipe down pat. She had 12 children living in a 2 bedroom house WITH one of those bedrooms used as their Shop front during the day time. One room for the girls, one for the boys. My g.grandparents slept in the loungeroom.
Don't like eating flour dumplings myself.
LOVE a Kim Chee soup with those thick FAT tubular rice noodles in them. Do you know the name of them OTR?
I do like sweet potato noodles in chicken and or vegetable soup. They're AWESOME and gluten free too, bonus!
But if left overnight, they swell up SO big, so there needs to be plenty of liquid in there to cope lol.
My fave home made soup is a take on Minestrone, minus the beans, adding tons of barley. Don't like pasta in it, it doesn't freeze or keep well in the soup IME. I cook up a few sweet potato noodles to add before eating.
I'm slow cooking BRISKET tomorrow, for hours on end lol. The boys will be home and most of the girls will be at work. Poodle loves the leftovers but the chickens get all the fat, which I'm sure irks him to pieces.
We're heading towards 1982 peeps, well done!
Remember the ole crochet swimmers? Hahaha, I had an orange pair.
I'm still fumbling to learn how to crochet more effectively. Only made little flowers for kid's hair decor so far. Not much else.
Talk soon!

Hi OTR, EM, Fiatlux & everyone, especially new arrivals to BB.
Ha ha, EM, no, I don't add ham to everything, even if I wanted. I don't even have cheese with literally everything either. However, if these were as healthy as a green salad, I could happily live on ham & cheese & a few other things forever.
She had a huge pot & boiled the chicken frames until the chicken on them simply fell off. Then we kids plucked out all the bones. Then she began adding other ingredients, herbs & such, lots of veges, like celery, carrot, onion, more chicken (including kidneys &/or livers, but no more bones,) & stuff I don't remember, & when near done, the long fettuccini-like noodles went in. In the earlier version, I think the dumplings went in earlier, because they were not small like gnocchi. In my recall, they were large enough to require four bites to eat.
I doubt I would have liked the dumplings either, EM, if not for the herb flavours & the broth to have with them.
[pondering LRC] I never thought of sweet potato noodles... interesting... but I can't eat much sweet potato, or my tummy gets very unhappy. I'd love to try a small amount... What would you have with them? What would you say to tabouli & feta? Be a new kind of special treat, I think.
mmMekitty (Little Red Cat, Kitty, MK, whatever, just not, as they say, "late for dinner")

Hello Everyone…🤗..
I haven’t been to visit the cafe lately, know I’m feeling better, thought I would pop in to say hello..plus all the talk of chicken and vegetable soup has kind of made me hungry…I remembered my Grans chicken soup…full of those dried soup vegetables…so yummy…
One thing I’d like to ask is about dumplings….I’ve never had them but have been told they can be very nice…with different ways to flavour them….are they easy to make?…They do look to me like they would be um chewy or would taste like soggy bread…am I wrong in thinking this?…or do they taste yummy?…
I mostly just overcook some garlic bread to very crunchy and add to my soup…if I don’t have the garlic bread it’s usually over cooked toast, cut into little pieces…
Hope everyone is having a great day….
Hugs everyone Grandy..🤗♥️..
