I couldn't think of a more creative name for this thread so I kept it simple. I love coming across quotes that make me feel good or make me think about a situation in a different light. I have a "little book of confidence" that I used to carry in my handbag for when i needed it and I have a few other little books with quotes that I reflect on now and then
I thought it would be good to share some and encourage others to do the same.
For starters I have:
If you want to know someone's mind, listen to their words. If you want to know their heart, watch their actions.
People are not addicted to alcohol or drugs, they are addicted to escaping reality.

If Jesus did exist, then this is a hell of a quote:
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world". -- John 16:33
I mean who talks like that?!

I study the Aikido Spirit and I was inspired in that study to write this...
I will bow low and deep, for I have my head in the clouds and must bring you up to me.
Cause and event, consequence of inaction often ignored through ahimsa consideration.
What comes first? Emotion? Rationality? Spirituality? Other? Chicken or Egg, self replicating genes or lots of machines? Which is which, is organic chemistry just the machines of life?

And of course a few people do not like the implication that the taller person is above the shorter person, and conflate that meaning into an insult.
So with some work on the language I have come up with the following improved harmony statement.
I will bow optimally low so that I can meet the other in the eye with respect.
Which of course those educated in Japanese culture will then criticize that looking in the other persons eye is itself an insult, and the subject should be looking down if respect is what they intend to imply.
Where as in the criminal world, to look down and away from an angry eye, may likely provoke the other to respond even harder with the opportunity permitted by not watching the opponent. Thus the violent will keep their eyes on the other, even if only on their feet/knees/hips to ensure watching of body position.
There is much to be learned from the bowing custom of Aikido.
I nod my head to my wife and smile, I tip my hat to a good cricket shot, I bow to a Japanese ambassador, I write a respectful letter to government. All those follow from bowing alignment with aikido.
