Friends Cafe - social space for members under 25

Hey! Welcome to Friends Cafe.

This is a chill and chat space for young BB members to talk about anything and everything and make new friends.

When school's getting to you, uni or work has got you down, parents, partners, friends don't understand, and especially if you're feeling alone or lonely - come and relax awhile and talk to others who know just how you feel.

Our minds can cause us trouble, but they can also be amazing things that imagine beauty, love and fun. This cafe has everything you can imagine. To start with it's, well, a cafe. So there's chairs and tables, comfy couches for flopping, a big screen tele, unlimited download on computers for games, Spotify (or an old-school jukebox if you prefer), every movie you can think of on instant demand ... whatever you want, it's here. Post and tell us what'd you'd like.

Plus, there's an infinite menu of whatever food or drinks takes your fancy. And it's all free!

To kick it off, today we have a special range of Monster Milkshakes - those thick gooey shakes topped with cronuts, chocolate bars, cake, cookies ... whatever you want. And if you can get through one of them, you're a legend (and probably feeling a little bit sick LOL!)

Thanks for the kind words! You, SM, and everyone else at the cafe and BB have always made my day the past week I've been around. I've been here for such a short time but it doesn't really feel that way because of how welcoming everyone is! 🙂 And no need to applogise for being away a few days - it sounds like you were really busy. I'm glad you had a good rest.

That's cool that you work. If you don't mind me asking, where do you work? I went to work yesterday and am going again later tomorrow. I work part time at a pharmacy. The job suits me a lot because I work in the back making and sorting medicine packs which we send to nursing homes, so there isn't much communication or social interaction, it's not a fast paced environment so there's little stress, and doesn't require a lot of multi tasking! (which I am absolutely terrible at!!)

Hahaha oh my goodness no need to make space for me to dance! But I wouldn't mind dancing with you haha... maybe one day we can all dance together (a party for your birthday maybe?)

Being honest, my exams didn't start off well, but I ended up getting through them quite okay!! I am just going to look forward and try and do better next time! Although I am a bit worried as I have a few exams next term, and for English it is a speaking task, I think a viva voce (an interview type thing). It's in week 6 so it's silly to start worrying now, but oral assessment tasks are not really my thing haha... 🙂 You have exams next term as well? 8 is quite a lot, but since you are already preparing now, and with your strength and intelligence, I'm sure you will do very well! (an early) good luck with them!!

I'm so glad you have been having a nice week, sounds like it's been quite fun! It's so good you're close to your boyfriend and his family, and wow, 97th birthday!!

My week has been going ok so far! I haven't really done much - quite a lot of sleeping haha. I did go to work yesterday though and I think tomorrow I'm going to buy new pointe shoes for ballet before I go to work again which is pretty exciting 🙂 I haven't read a book in a while because I didn't have the time with exams and everything and there are a few books on my shelf that I haven't read yet which have been bothering me a bit. So I think I might start on one of those later today.

Thank you so much for the welcoming, it’s nice to be acquainted with you. Our new addition to the café is definitely a keeper, he is super cute and cuddly, and I just know that he will be spoilt by the lovely people in this community group. 😉

Thanks for caring for him during my absence, he was super exhausted and sleeping peacefully on the beanbag that you placed him on.

It’s lovely to meet an honorary patronage of the Friends Café. I hope that our beautiful boy was on his best behaviour during your visit. He’s certainly a clever fellow, however he does seem to have this royal air about him!!! I think that we may end up with one spoilt pooch on our hands 😉

I am so so sorry to hear of Grace’s loss of her beloved pooch Lucky 😞 I hope that our little guy gives her so much comfort and love. Last year I had to make a hard decision , to put my (cockatiel) gorgeous baby girl of thirteen years to sleep. It’s heartbreaking losing a member of your family.

It’s my pleasure, it’s been absolutely lovely communicating with you the past couple of days. That’s great to hear, she’s a brilliant writer. The puppy is absolutely lovely, isn’t it? Perhaps we should get a kitten as well, they’re beautiful. I used to have a cat when I was a young child. I’m more of a bird person though, as I grew up with 7 gorgeous cockatiels from a young age. My week has been okay, I hope yours has been

Thank you so much for the warm welcome it’s lovely to meet you. I thought an animal would brighten up everyone’s day they’re beautiful to have around. What kind of pet would be your favourite, if you could have one? 🙂 I used to have cockatiels.

I’m so excited to hear you’re half Korean and half Chinese, that’s so cool. 🙂 Sometimes it hard to meet other people who have similar interest that I do. I absolutely adore Big Bang, SHINee, Teen Top, U-Kiss, Exo and so many more. My favourite singer would definitely have to be Taeyang from Big Bang, he’s got a lovely voice. How about yourself? I’m very interested to hear what you like.

Wow, that’s amazing a whole month! It’s always been a dream of mine to go see Big Bang perform live. I’d absolutely love for you to tell me more about the shopping and food over there I’m incredibly interested. Um, I have in the past, yes, I know someone who’s very addicted to them. : ) What’s your favourites?

Cassandra Clare is a great writer; I was so impressed when I read the Mortal Instrument series, I’m so glad to hear you liked it too. They do come before, they’re really quite interesting I’m re-reading Clockwork Angle at the moment. Thank you so much for replying!

There’s been a great request for names for our new beautiful puppy. I was thinking since we’ve got a café going, how about Cookie, or Snickers? (I’m not any good with male names unless they’re in Japanese haha) In

Hi Katy,

I am just sneaking back into the young peoples cafe to see how your latest addition is getting along. Nearly got bowled over as I walked in the door. When I say honorary, thats not a prestige thing, in fact quite the opposite. It means I'm 56 and therefore dont qualify to be an actual member of this Cafe. ( - :

And I have misled you about Grace's dog Lucky. Grace is from China (here at boarding school) and her dog Lucky is still in China with her family. So she misses her dog because she doesnt get to see him any more. He is still alive though.

So have there been any suggestions for the pooch's name? He is quite a regal fellow isnt he? So perhaps something along those lines. Princely names like - Henry or Albert maybe. Maybe you need to post a not on the bulletin board asking for name nominations for him. He does need a name .......

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd send a message directed at anyone and everyone who could read this!

I haven't had the best week, mainly because I am avoiding doing uni work. However, I did start doing bits and pieces today (it's day 3 of the break), so I'm not doing too badly!

It's great that you're so creative Katy! My boyfriend's sister (23 like me) loves both anime and K Pop (as well as J Pop)! She showed me her collection of anime stuff a while back. I don't enjoy anime unfortunately, but it seems to have a serious fan base 🙂 My boyfriend and his sister both love Japan too!! He wants to go to Japan next year, and he suggested I come. Originally I thought I wouldn't go, but now I am hearing more about Japanese culture and would really like to go. I've also never travelled with my boyfriend before, so it'll be great to experience the trip together 🙂 He's been to Japan twice before - once on a cultural exchange in high school and once with friends. It's literally one of his favourite countries!

It's great you love Cockatiels Katy! When I was 10 I got a Cockatiel named Kiki, and I loved him to bits. I had a bird obsession from the age of 9 til 11! I still think birds are beautiful 🙂

That's cool that you're half-Korean ahw. A guy I dated a few years ago is Korean, though his parents left South Korea for America, and then came to Australia when he (their son) was about two. I imagine Korean dramas are more unique than American ones! 😛

I hope Grace, Smith, ahw and any other young people with upcoming exams strike a balance between study and rest! Hopefully you're doing well with your Diploma Crystal 🙂 Becka - I hope you've settled into work now. Thanks to Kaz and Sherie for being positive influences here too! Sorry if I have forgotten anyone!

Hello!

Sorry, but I just wanted to say a bit of a quick thank you to everyone!

The past few days before today I've been feeling particularly down. But today I have had such an amazing day and I am in a great mood! I am smiling as I type this! I still had feelings of anxiety but I think this is happiest I've been in months! It's become a bit of an unfamiliar feeling, but a great one. I almost didn't know what to do with myself and I thought there was something wrong with me haha!

And then I come on here, read a couple of threads and wow, I'm just so overwhelmed right now (in the best way possible) by how much care, understanding, warmth and support there is within this community, and I feel so lucky to be a part of it. I have only been around for about a week and haven't shared much of my own story or helped anyone, but a week is all I need, to know how much of a blessing everyone here is. Every post overflows with such genuine love and kindness! It's so wonderful to see so many people always ready and so willing to help people who are struggling and going through extremely difficult times. Thank you all for inspiring and motivating me, always brightening my room and making me smile! 🙂 I really admire everyone's strength and great capacity for love. It is these things that make me not hateful, but grateful for my experiences with depression and anxiety.

Anyway I'm so sorry, but I am just feeling so blessed and happy today!! My thoughts are with everyone both in the cafe and the whole of the Beyond Blue community. I appreciate you all! Be kind to yourself and take care 🙂
