Hey! Welcome to Friends Cafe.
This is a chill and chat space for young BB members to talk about anything and everything and make new friends.
When school's getting to you, uni or work has got you down, parents, partners, friends don't understand, and especially if you're feeling alone or lonely - come and relax awhile and talk to others who know just how you feel.
Our minds can cause us trouble, but they can also be amazing things that imagine beauty, love and fun. This cafe has everything you can imagine. To start with it's, well, a cafe. So there's chairs and tables, comfy couches for flopping, a big screen tele, unlimited download on computers for games, Spotify (or an old-school jukebox if you prefer), every movie you can think of on instant demand ... whatever you want, it's here. Post and tell us what'd you'd like.
Plus, there's an infinite menu of whatever food or drinks takes your fancy. And it's all free!
To kick it off, today we have a special range of Monster Milkshakes - those thick gooey shakes topped with cronuts, chocolate bars, cake, cookies ... whatever you want. And if you can get through one of them, you're a legend (and probably feeling a little bit sick LOL!)
Welcome friends.

Hi Grace!
Thanks so much for another kind message!
My anxiety has been bothering me a lot this uni break. So yesterday on a whim I booked in to see a local psychologist for this morning. I hadn't been to see a professional (besides my GP) for several years. It went well and the lady was so nice and easy to talk to. She could tell I had an academic understanding of what's going on, but that I need help working through my ingrained worries in a practical way. Sometimes it can be easier to give advice than to internalise it and apply it practically to your own life!
I'm glad you're taking a well-deserved break, and doing enjoyable things with friends. I used to watch Friends in my teens. I first started liking it when my family and I were stuck in an overseas airport for hours in-between flights. My sister and I found a couple of old comfy armchairs with a small TV, in the corner of one of the airport terminals. Back-to-back reruns of Friends was playing, which was really great to pass the time 🙂
I'm going to the football tomorrow night with my boyfriend and his parents, as his sister can't go. Then we'll go straight into town to be with our friends, as one of the guys in our group is turning 24.
It's great that we can talk and relate to each other so well, despite our seven year age gap 😄 Well, soon to be seven year gap 😛 Have you got any plans for your birthday on Monday?
I'm so glad you're having a great break so far!!
All the best,
SM

Hi bc!
Being on a farm sounds nice and restful! Having a break from the city and from technology can do wonders for mental health, or at least allow some time to unwind and do different things. I'm sorry to hear you were feeling down because of how you felt about your friend. Jealousy is an uncomfortable emotion. So long as you apologise next time you see him/her and keep being the good friend you always have been, then it should be fine.
The degree I'm studying is Bachelor of Psychological Science. There are a variety of subjects. The first year subjects cover a wide range of topics to introduce the field of psychology broadly. In second year statistics becomes a bigger part of the degree (thankfully there is plenty of help from teaching staff). This semester I'm doing three psych subjects: Learning and Behaviour; Individual Differences, Personality and Assessment; and Psychology, Science and Society. The latter doesn't involve any statistics or practical reports and is social psychology based. The Individual Differences subject is probably my favourite though.
The study is happening slowly, but at least it is in fact taking place 😛
I hope you're having a nice day 😄
Best wishes,
SM

Hi Katy,
Thank you for thinking of me! I saw a psychologist this morning for the first time in years, and I'm glad I made the appointment. I feel a bit better now that I'm seeing someone about my anxiety.
I hope you're doing well Katy!
All the best,
SM

hey Katy!
thank you very much for making me feel welcome. There really are a lot of wonderful people on here as I am finding out more and more, and I hope to learn more about you and everyone too!
A little bit about me, I'm currently in year 12 as I have said on other forums, and like most 16 (17 in 2 days!!) year olds like going out with my friends and doing whatever with them. Unlike them though I'm someone who likes to talk and listen to what people have to say and just having a genuine conversation rather than going out every weekend (this might be because they all drink and I don't). I suspect you and most others on here are the same as me because you all seem to love getting to know each other and are really interested in that! I love watching and playing pretty much all sport, particularly AFL and cricket! Do you like sport?
Thank you!!

hi SM,
thank you for that advice, it did help! Also the days on the farm were definitely helpful, there is something really refreshing about sitting around a fire in the fresh country air!
Hmm, psychological science does sound very interesting, and individual differences in particular. In saying that, the data sounds a little dry haha, but I'm sure it's worth it to do the interesting stuff!
Lucky for you the study is even taking place :P, at the moment I'm struggling to evend sit at my desk. I'll get there eventually.
Have a nice day!

Grace!!
Thank you so much for your reply! You always bring such light and joy to the cafe!!
I’m glad you’ve been having fun, and it seems like you’ve been keeping a balance between that and studying, which is great! I’m also glad that work is fun and the people are nice. I love Dominos, and all pizza actually!! I agree the dances are pretty amazing! I have tried to learn a few but some of them are quite hard. I’m very excited for your birthday, and we have bc’s birthday soon too!! Are you doing anything special for your birthday?
Thank you so very, very much again for the kind words! I hope you are having a great week because you 110% deserve that too!! Always thinking of you!! (and everyone else here!)
Might help myself to a monster milkshake now too, and sit over here with the puppy!! (which still needs a name haha!)

Hey bc!
Going to your friend’s farm sounds amazing, I’m glad it was helpful and a nice break! And I hope the situation with your friend is okay now!
Wow, your birthday is so, so soon!! (if I counted right it’s tomorrow I think? It’s one of my closest friends’ birthday tomorrow too!) Do you have any plans for the day? We can have a party here and have whatever foods or activities you want!! Only if you want to though 🙂
I’m similar to you as most of my friends drink and like to go out a lot, while I prefer to do simpler things and have genuine conversations. I’m very lucky though because they’re great friends and extremely supportive 🙂 It’s cool you like sport, I often wish I was more sporty! Playing sport is pretty fun though, even if I’m not very good at it! Haha, I have also been struggling to do work, I haven’t touched a thing this holidays since my exams finished…oops! But like you, I will get there eventually!! What subjects are you doing this year? Do you have a favourite?
Hope you are having an amazing day! Take care 🙂

Hi Katy!
Thank you for your kindness, understanding and gratitude! I also really enjoy speaking with you 🙂
It would be awesome to have them here to teach us a few steps haha! I really envy their dancing skills!! My favourite food… that’s a really hard question! I liked the ‘budae jjiggae’ I had in a place called Uijeongbu. It is a spicy Korean-American fusion dish. It was actually created soon after the Korean War, when resources like food would’ve been scarce, by combining the surplus foods, e.g. canned beans, ham and sausages, from the US military bases around Uijeongbu, with more traditional Korean flavours, into a stew. Eating it in the place where it originated from, it was delicious! I also really liked all the street food!! Haha oops, I’m so, so sorry for the rambling and mini history lesson!!
I’ve never actually heard of steam, but I will check it out if I have time. What you are doing on it sounds lovely and something I would really enjoy being a part of!!
I hope you also have a lovely week and take care of yourself too!

Hi SM!
I’m sorry to hear your anxiety has been bothering you a lot recently, and I’m glad you’ve seen a psych and felt a bit better after that! I hope you enjoyed the football and being with your friends! Your degree sounds really interesting, I have actually been really interested in psychology since I was young, but my interest has increased in the past year or so! Seems to be a common interest among most of us here! Do you have any plans for the next few days?
I hope you have a great long weekend and progress more on study as well as have more fun!
Take care, thinking of you! 🙂
