Croix.....forgot to tell you my old boss asked me to help out again...thank God it was after my game was over...couldn't have done both together. { although I did when I was younger...sigh!)......It seems manageable, or rather he seems more manageable so hope not speaking too soon. I have to admit I sort of...maybe...feel a bit more..."alive".....am I on the way to healing more, do you think?

re Sense & Sensibility...forgot to list Hugh Grant among the cast too, not that anyone cares!

{ we both know the last thing you do in a smoking jacket is smoke don't we? I wonder if Noel C is there in the room with you sometimes....perhaps Oscar too? )

What's all the smoke going to do to the iceberg?

& why was there ever a 'smoking jacket' invented in the first instance? Was there a reason, such as, a rich fellow spilled gravy on his dinner suit,& couldn't stand the idea of going to chin wag with a stain on his jacket, so ordered someone to bring him a suitable replacement for him to change into, & they found a dressing gown, & hurriedly chopped off several inches & ta-da, a smoking jacket was born!?

Although I haven't seen 'Sense an Sensibility', Hugh Grant had not escaped my notice in some other things, (don't ask what, 'cause I don't remember primarily because of his voice, timbre ,tone & pronunciation, plus education I am guessing. He's got a listenable voice.

I'd enjoy him reading some books, so long as they are science fiction!

Can you imagine if Noel Coward & Oscar Wilde could have met? & just for more fun, throw Quentin Crisp as well! - but apparently Crisp & Coward did on occasion... unfortunately Wilde's timing was a bit out to avail himself of meeting these other two. Imagining is more fun without too many facts getting in the way.😺

Dear mmMekitty and all
I've just been enjoying "Poem on Owls" by Louis Wain

Now I would not have mentioned it, though I realy like the accompanying illustration of a parliament of owls, however Mr Wain's great claim to fame was his drawings of cats, very often psychedelic ones, very much in advance of his time at the end of the 19th century.

Now this page does not give a comprehensive set of examples of his works, but is a good starting point.

Hi Croix,

This mean you want 🦉🦉🦉(owls) now instead of 🐧🐧🐧1:1swap?

& as for those psychedelic cats, who might be my rellies, you know, many natural substances & chemicals were not well regulated back then, which could explain a lot.😺

I have copied & pasted the poem to look for - hope I remember tomorrow.

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Warmly to all,

Dear mmMekitty~

No I don't think I could swap the penguins, not that I am particularly fond of them, but at least they can feed themselves. I don't want hordes of hungry owls complaining when dinner-time rolls around.

BTW this is a reminder to look up Louis Wain

Ooo thanks I've been trying to make some savoury bread/cake /large oval puck, maybe, if it doesn't work & I continue to be distracted....Lots going on with neighbours this afternoon.

Owls could move in with their own rodent farm?

...& those cat pictures! If I wan't mindful they might be under copyright, I might have one or two for alternate Pictures here.😺My attempts at making cat pictures on my PC look a little like his, (he certainly painted much better than I could create), in that mine also had big eyes, & a bigger head, too. Remember my Xmas 'Snowy Cat' picture?

Keep warm, Mrs C, cats & you too.😺

Dear MK

I'm too soft hearted for a rodent farm, also I think if you did a search for any of Wain's pictures 100yrs or older you may well find they (and some of his more recent ones too) are well out of copyright and in the public domain.

Gook luck with your large oval puck

-C (who does remember your Xmas and Easter cats)

Evening Croix

I love owls. Ever since a night some years back...a hot night , and I decided to take a cool walk around the block. Very quiet and very safe neighbourhood, very peaceful. I was walking in the middle of the road...as you can around my place. I could see in the distance a black shadowy sort of "hump" shape in the middle of the road. No traffic around at this hour, just me and this dark shape. Naturally I wondered what it was...so kept walking towards it. It didn't move at all. Perhaps an old boot or some rubbishy thing that had fallen from back of truck or something?

As I came a bit closer, the "dark shape"still stayed completely motionless, except "it" slowly turned its head. Just its head, the rest of it remained still. And it looked straight into my eyes. Didn't fly away, just stared at me. We stayed like this for quite a few minutes with not even a flutter of its wings. So I decided not to disturb its solitude any more and slowly turned around and walked away back home.

I glanced back just once and yes it was still there....like me, enjoying the coolness of the evening. But I will never forget how it turned its head and gazed straight into my eyes....loved owls ever since!

🌒 Moonstruck I had the same thing happen to me, it was night time and I passed an owl sitting still on a fence and it stared into my soul. It was a very still, undisturbed own that didn't even move when I passed it.

Dear Moon~

I love the sensitivity you showed in retracing you steps, leaving that owl in peace.

I remember as a lad my father had parishes with old churches, and they used to have gaps and crannies in which owls resided.

On a late spring spring full-moon evening I could see shadowy shapes emerge and beat silent wings to nearby fields and hedgerows. Then they would return, surprisingly quickly, with food for their nestlings, who unlike their parents did make a most unseemly noise as they squabbled over the choicest morsels.

Thank you for reminding me of still evenings packed with interest for a small boy.
