Really struggling with physical symptoms. Need to be heard/listened to.

Hi, I'm new here. I've suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for about 15 years but lately things are really getting out of hand. I suffer from all kinds of physical symptoms, many of which I don't believe are stright out anxiety/panic but due to the medicine I'm taking. I'm due to start my new anti-depressant medication tomorrow and really hope I can get back on track. Today I've had a massive migraine, pain in the head/spine plus discoordination, feeling of passing out, constant dizziness, jolts in the head plus more. Everyone I tell dismisses my symptoms as panic attacks and I simply can't make myself heard except by people who support me in the community (but they are not the doctors).

So I'm welcome to any advice because I go for a morning walk every day, try to eat the right foods, and want to get well. I live with my parents but they don't come anywhere near me so I'm both physically and emotionally isolated. Luckily I have a good neighbour who I spend an hour and a half with each day. It helps to get out of the house.

My GP isn't really on the same wavelength as me either. Any advice is welcome. Thanks for reading.

Hi Rochan

Thank you for coming to Beyond Blue and for providing your post.  You’ve sure got some things definitely happening with you and as it goes, I can sense how it’s really building up for you – which is not good;  BUT it’s very good that you’ve made a choice to come here.

You’ve also mentioned some other positive things that you’ve got in place – ie:  that you are going for morning walks (I can’t encourage that enough – it’s a really awesome thing to do;  early morning exercise, out and about, helping your fitness and your mind as well);  trying to eat the right foods, another super important thing (for anyone to do) and also your message about how you just want to get well.

It also seems that you’re in need of  some possible professional help (counselling) judging by your message where it seems that you do enjoy your 90 minutes time spent with your lovely neighbour.

My suggestion here is to seek out a new doctor.  On this site, Beyond Blue have a list of doctors who can be searched for;   hopefully you’ll find one or more in your local area;   these dr’s are all experienced in dealing with mental health issues and as such, should be very beneficial for you and stemming from that, may even be able to supply you with a suitable referral on for a trained counsellor.

I hope this is something that sounds helpful to you and that you may be able to get this happening.

Kind regards

Neil

Hi there. I just wanted you to know that you certainly aren't line in this. I too suffer the exact same symptoms daily. Some days are better than others. Unfortunately today has been bad. Drs and other professionals have called what i have health anxiety or hypochondria but sometimes I find it so so hard to believe that it's simply that. These symptoms are real and dibilitating. This is the first time I've ever been on his forum also and as soon as I came on I saw your post and related immediately. Im a 25 year old female and have been getting worse and worse with my symptoms. Google has made me worse I believe. I've been thinking I'm dying since I was 12 though. I'm sorry to hear you feel the way you do. Hopefully this space will be benificial for us both. Nice to know you aren't alone at least 🙂

Hi there, so nice to read your message and to know that there are other people with exactly the same symptoms as me.. I'm really sorry to hear that today has been a bad day for you, I hope tomorrow is better.. Yesterday was pretty bad for me, I've repeatedly had people tell me that I have health anxiety too or just dismissing or belittling what I'm going through..Im 40 years old, I also hope that both of us can find this a benefical space, I am sure we will, I have already had some other positive replies and I'm sure if you write a introduction letter you would be warmly welcomed just like i was.. It helps to have supportive people around you too i that is possible.. I don't feel so alone now:)

Hi Chris, thank you very much for your welcome and for those list of threads. I will defintely be checking them out one by one and see if there are some similarities to what I'm going  through. It is simply debilitating and add to that the people around you don't understand, but nice also to know that I'm not alone 🙂

Hi Neil,

Thank you very much for your warm welcome to the forum. It is so nice (and emotional in a  good way) to know that there are people out there to help, and other people going through as rough a time as I am. It doesn't make it any easier for me physically but mentally I feel better because it can be such an intensely lonely experience when trying to share my illness with people who either don't understand or who are negative, trivializing things etc... I'll be checking out some of the other threads, especially in this forum.

I don't feel so alone now than i did 24 hours ago 🙂

Hi Rochan

Thank you for providing your replies (to each of us) and it’s very pleasing to read that you have found a positive for you by coming here.  It is a very supportive and friendly place and it’s great to not only know this, but to also know that you can unload all you want here and it’s all fine and we try as best we can (when asked) to provide as best an answer to questions asked.  This is predominately done via us having been (and mostly, still going)  through our own battles, so we can bring experience and knowledge ‘to the table’.

To Tig;   that was wonderful that you posted and as so many people have found, simply by coming here and reading, they can quickly see that they are not alone with their issues and that can be a very comforting thing to hear.   Just as Rochan suggested, if you’re able to commence your own thread, you’ll be able to receive messages fully aimed at yourself and your own situation – hopefully you feel comfortable enough here to be able to do that.
