My father used to say ( If it is to be it is up to me )
I totally get though the implementation is easier said than done.
Running a business when your failing
Tired 24/7, panic attacks, no concentration, the want to disconnect,
Why have I lost my MOJO I never was like this.
I guess the antidepressants dont help hey.
Well back to work know.
Thanks

dear Kelvin, well I can truly understand what you have said and how you are feeling, as the days seem to get longer with no much we have achieved or interested in doing.
I also had my own business as a builder/handyman with 6 months of work in front of me but when the final crunch came, I was unable to do anything, and had to throw everything away and just stop working.
I had people ringing me and leaving a message on my answer machine wanting to know where I was and why I didn't turn up to do their job, and at that stage I was also taking antidepressants (AD) which weren't doing anything and seeing my psychologist twice a week, thankfully that was a long time ago.
Firstly when you feel miserable which leads to depression, you won't be able to achieve anything worthwhile, because you physically can't, especially if your business is struggling, but this could be only because you're not well.
It's an enormous decision to close the doors of your business, unless someone can take over or the business or to be sold, but again this depends on your financial situation.
My wife was working and I was able to get a DSP pension, but that was back in '97, and now the government are making it so much harder, but then every case is a different one to deal with when applying.
You must go back to your doctor and tell him/her that the AD aren't working, inwhich case they will be changed to another brand, because it's useless taking something that's not doing anything.
Also ask them about the 'mental health plan' where you can get 10 free visits to see a psychologist, and depending on how busy they are, there maybe a waiting time.
What your father said to you is easier said than done, but it doesn't work like that with depression, because it just makes you uninterested, unmotivated and really don't give a damn.
Hope to hear back from you. Geoff.

Hi Kelvin,
Geoff has given you a lovely message back describing his journey that sounds a little similar to your own.
Just a couple of thoughts. Is it possible for you to take a mini holiday. I like to do this when ever I can. I take a different route home from work so I see something different along the way.
Some days I have very different foods for lunch and if possible find a park where I can enjoy my lunch and hear the birds or watch the children playing.
Even a half day at the beach can seem like a holiday to me. It doesn't have to be anything big or expensive.
Some days when I am feeling really disconnected and depressed I spend some time in the garden, it gives my brain a break.
Regarding your business, can you diversify in any way? Find new clients? I guess you have tried all you can already! My husband tried starting up a business of his own and in the end he had to realise his dream just wasn't going to work. It is tough. He still doesn't have work. Some days he is really depressed so I try to listen to him and offer distractions when possible.
Thanks for sharing your story with us and welcome to the community here at Beyond Blue.

Me again!
Oh yer. About the antidepressants. Like Geoff mentioned sometimes we need to try various ones before the Dr is able to find one that works well for you.
I have tried many and am very thankful my Dr has been very patient and helpful. I now have a medication that helps me to feel like life is worth living. This year has been a tough one for me with being hospitalised twice due to depression and wanting to take my own life, going through a period where our marriage was nearly over and other stuff on top.
So please persevere and reach out to anyone who will listen for help.
Cheers again.
