Um im new to beyond blue... nice to meet you anxious mess.
Im 25 and struggle with anxiety and mild depression much like yourself. One of the techniques i use with my therapist to help with my anxiety is mindfulness. Essentially it's about being present and aware, from my understanding. (I'm not a psychologist hence the brief explanation).
Theres one exercise in particular I use when I'm feeling like I'm out of my body and or emotionally overwhelmed. I close my eyes and picture myself walking inside my heart. Inside my heart is this beautiful gold space. There's a chair in the middle of the heart, everything is white except the gorgeous gold dust floating everywhere. I sit down in the chair. I start to feel the gold dust with every inch of my body starting from my toes all the way up to my head. I tell myself "I am safe here. No one can hurt me. I love every inch of myself." I focus on my breath and letting the gold sink into my breath. " I am being of light". After I've let my body relax I open my eyes.

You can also find guided meditation on YouTube and high dose of magnesium helps with anxiety....and lots of bananas.

Hi Anxiousmess and welcome,
great suggestions given and great you have a psych appt booked. Magnesium, b complex vitamins and exercise are good too. There is an app called smiling mind and relax melodies. You mention you're ok at work. Do you know if something is triggering your anxiety? Do yin keep busy at home or read or do something to focus on?

I am not sure what triggers the anxiety but I do know if I am busy and can shut my brain up I am ok. It does get tiring constantly keeping my head amused so it doesn't start with all the anxious thoughts
my psych appt is tomorrow and I am nervous about that but really hoping for some help and guidance that isn't medication because my husband says I become a drone when I am on it and have no emotions.
i have just downloaded smiling mind and will give that a crack. I tend to be reactive with anxiety like when I am either about to have an attack or in the throws of an attack is when I look for help to stop the physical symptoms. I need to work on prevention and be proactive in helping myself retrain my brain rather than trying just to stop the inevitable

You sound like you have a good survival strength, keep that, it'll get you through this
It seems distractions a good deterrent even if only temporarily it gives the mind a break from the stress building and wanting an out which I think could be what anxiety is...an outlet
I have times of anxiety when I'm in Bipolar & on two occasions they were full blown episodes, but knowing what they were was able to pull out so hope this helps.
I said in a matter of fact voice to myself (not verbally but no harm in that) basically to settle down, that this is anxiety so while you're taking control over the situation concentrate at same time all the time on breathing slowly and steadily, take nice deep breaths in an out, don't allow any thoughts that distress you to come in, just work on those two things.
It seems to come on strong with extreme tiredness & exhaustion I'm noticing and was just talking to friend today that backed that who suffers from it biggly.
Do you have any stress release techniques in place like excercise is good wether walking or gym or home stuff, even ram the volume up and dance for a while at home, let loose, sing loud, cop the neighbours later 🙂
Excercise is good cause it helps with sleep too.
Meditation can sound like a lot of hard work but recently I've realised it's actually not cause our imaginations are powerful & you can work exactly where you want to be for peace and tranquility. What I did was first up was saying to myself I"m going to be totally relaxed and feel so good rested and release stress.
Tell yourself you're comfy, warm, secure, concentrating again on breathing slowly and steadily and focus on feeling stress and tension leaving your body that parts very important and don't put a time limit on it. I suggest if you do this don't take your mind anywhere that involves activity or pace, you want to be relaxed, tell yourself you are, keep reiterating how good you feel.
Believe in yourself Anxious, you can get through this
