new nurse starting new job

Hi,

I'm 47 and I graduated nursing in november last year. I started my first job as a nurse in aged care 5 weeks ago. I also have generalised anxiety. My confidence in my ability to do my job has taken a beating the last 2 weeks due to 2 mistakes I made on the job. No one was hurt by my actions but my confidence has gone through the floor because of it. Plus I've overheard the residential manager say a few negative things about me, so its a given that she doesn't like me either. Can anyone give me some advice on how to handle this situation, I cant leave yet because its a grad position and unless you have experience its hard to get another job.

Hi Ive been an Rn now for 9 years so ive been there. When ur a new graduate you will make mistakes everyone does the important thing is to learn from them. Unfortunently in our profession you will always come across other nurses who are very negative and rude especially when your new its important to remember that these people are more unhappy in themselves and there jobs than you and as a new graduate nums should be supporting you and helping you not making you feel worse its a team effort. Just keep going every day with a positive attitude and be nice to everyone even if they arnt to you, you will get far that way. We all struggle as a new grad but it will pass and get better, your confidence will grow and so will people's faith in you, hang in there I promise it gets better, and all nurses whether they admit it or not make mistakes at times regardless of experience, we are human doing our best, not perfect. Take everything as a learning curve, it makes you stronger in the long run, anxiety is horrible especially in our profession, but just do your best and don't be so hard on yourself, in time they will see what an assett you can be. Good luck 😀
